Archie stunned Swindon with a great hat-trick, including a dribble past Steve McMahon...

Best April Fools Day ever.

Really enjoyed that game - especially with the line of coppers (stretching from the corner flag in the Town End / South Bank corner) having to get out of the way sharpish in the lead up to our third goal

"Steve McMahon......

There was a picture of Lovell running away from the camera doing the Fjortoft celebration - I've been after it for ages but can't find it anywhere.

Oh yes, how can we forget this day? Lovell's only good game for Reading which he dined out on for the rest of his career.

May I ask why? The obsession that some of our supporters have with Swindon Town - a mere 40 miles away - has always baffled me.

It's not as if we have a lot of other potential local rivals, so they'll do.

Personally I find that the fact that the very first derby game I went to was Swindon v Reading in 1987, where we got stuffed 4-0, makes me dislike them rather.

I have always considered in over 50 years that Swindon have been our main rivals the, team we wanted to beat most.
What you have to remember is that Oxford only joined the leaque in the early sixties so were never in the equation for many years.
As for Aldershot well more often than not they wer in a lower division so we did not play them too often either.
But Swindon we played reguarly over the years being in the same division so the rivalry goes back a long long time. We were also envious of their reaching the top tier long before us and also winning the leaque cup at Wembley.
They also pinched the Railway Workshops from us I believe.
There are probably other reasons as well but these would be the main ones why older supporters wanted to beat Swindon more than any other team

Hit by one of the coins from the away end?

Just FTR I thought i'd say how much I hate the "XX years ago today" threads.

"13 years ago today we lost 2-1 at Huddersfield Town with Andy Booth scoring the winner" etc etc

Give a shit.
