No, we'd be stuck in the same place we are now.
It's not just Coppell's fault anyway. Whoes to say the new manager would have come in and turned things around?

I just don't agree with this thread.

I support Mr.Coppell all the way in both good times and bad times, we should keep the faith in him.

WOULD we be at this level with two years in the Top Flight if we didn't sign Coppell as manager? Probably not......!!

The MVP Automatically?

I think so.

We should have sacked Coppell. He's been shit this season.

He's had 2 good seasons with us, the rest have been shit.

COPPELL OUT!

NOW!!!

BEFORE WE PLAY BURNLEY!!!!

I cant wait to remind you of this next season when we end up having a Sean Driscoll type manager in charge who is ultimately going to fall short in the eyes of Reading fans with the amount of changes that will follow Coppell's departure (hang on im Crystal ball gazing like Schards this cant be happening!!!)

The usual pereceptive analysis, thanks for that. I guess we are left to work out for ourselves who you think would have taken over and what they would have done differently.

I don't think you can blame the manager here can you? Surely the players are the ones first in line for any blame aren't they?

In this scenario I think we should have taken on a workaholic type manager in the mould of the old Tottenham boss Bill Nicholson. "Bill Nick" apparantly was regularly the last person to leave the ground at night, lock up and turn out the lights. He involved himself in all the functions of running the football club.
Our new man in January, as well as signing half a dozen new players and encouraging his new team to pass the ball to each other, could have involved himself in sorting out the following;
Stewarding at the Mad Stad by making standing permissable as at Turf Moor and Ashton Gate.
Re laying the pitch.
Firing our tired looking PA announcer.
Scrapping music after goals.
Banning the RFC drummer.
Introducing a "swearing area".
Initiating planning permission for a pub near the ground.
Ditto for a decent chippie.

How much of this could have been acheived by now and what duties can we find for his assistant?

The last contribution I remember Kevin Dillon making was to invite the Channel 5 weather girl to the Madejski live on radio, but not actually offer her any free tickets.
I would want our next assistant to be more proactive, and at least offer the Channel 5 weather girl a free programme if she comes.

why sack coppell he has been the best manager we have had. he has has the best season's this culb has ever had.
and it's about time we got behind him. instead of trying to get rid.

do the people that want him to go, go to games or are they what we call plastic fan,s. as all the season ticket holders i talk to want him to stay. if he goes and we free fall you will be saying we should have kept him wait and see look at crystal palace and brighton both managed by coppell
