Hammond picked team for last 5 matches

by marekisgod » 13 May 2009 21:27

My uncle plays bowls at 3mx bowling club with Vera Grant (Ron's) wife and she said that Hammond had been picking team for last 4 matches before last night's game , and Ron was told he was gonna be made redundant before he had the chance to retire , and the club was all over the place and nobody knew what what was happening .

Bollocks. If Coppell wasn't picking the team he'd have walked.

Wasn't there an article in the Times last with Squeaky quoted as saying that Coppell has had little to no input over recent weeks?

Or am I imagining that? (I don't read the Times)

Interesting to see Squeaky will be at the press conference with Copps and JM. I can't see Copps slagging off JM this morning, probably won't ever slag him tbh, so we'll never really know what the sums of money were that were available to him and whether his input was severely curtailed towards the end. I'd be appalled if they appointed Squeaky as manager but I just don't see it tbh. We need to bring in a new manager sooner rather than later - so he has the whole of the Summer to decide who he's going to let go, bring in etc etc. I originally thought that they might announce Brendan Rogers as new manager today and that was what the press conference was all about - it hardly seems worth Coppell holding a press conference to tell us what we already know - that he feels he's taken us as far as he can and he wants a complete break from football.

On the other hand, if the betting market is now closed, and the DaiLOLy MaiLOL apparently reported a while back that Hammond was picking the team, I hope to God that this press conference isn't saying goodbye to Copps and Hello to Hammond as the new manager - the lack of foresight and imagination in that scenario would be dreadful to put it mildly. :|

If they do that I'll rip up my 1997 season ticket in disgust.

Seriously though I can't think of any Reading fan who would happily accept Hammond as the manager.

Completely and utterly and absolutely NOT! In fact, this premise of this whole thread is complete and utter bullshit!

Yes, it is - good practice with redundancy is to give as much notice as possible, and, as you say, gets the person more money - especially as redundancy payments are based upon length of service.
