Did X cost us? where X = almost anything

by Royalwaster » 16 May 2009 23:22

I think we bottled it towards the end because we had such a pansy sponsor that the boys were embarrassed to have on their shirts - they just didn't want it to be shown on national TV at Wembley. If only we'd stuck to what we had ....

The MVP Yeah, you're right.

It's also Kebe's fault aswell though.

Very true I forgot! I saw Kebe shopping in Waitrose .... so it's all his fault!

Steve Coppell was caught buying a Vyleda Supermop in Sainsburys Bracknell.........should've gone to Waitrose

Besides it was all Reading 107's fault........getting Marek to try the corner flag challenge

Feck me but how can you afford to shop there? I went to the one in Woodley last weekend, on account of being bored with the same old from ASDA, loads of nice stuff but it cost me a packet.

I once saw Harper having breakfast in ASDA café on a matchday morning, I wonder if Kebe has his in the Costa opposite Waitrose?

I heard that the compulsory olive, falafel and hoummous foccacia's gave them the squits.

Yes, I agree that Waitrose is a sponsor too far in terms of us trying to present ourselves as either the working class boys or the hard boys of the division or, to be honest, amongst the sophisticates. It makes us look a bit, I dunno, too middle class, too nice. But I did notice that even in his departing speech to BBCRB, Steve Coppell mentioned that he could unload the contents of his desk into a single Waitrose bag, a teamsong player until the end. Did either Reading FC or Waitrose get what they wanted out of the relationship? Only time will tell, but the firesale at the Megastore speaks volumes..

Perhaps we could combine this with the "New Crest" thread?

Tesco might have been interested in sponsorship but a slogan "Every Little helps" could not have worked towards the end of the season (perhaps Portsmouth will try).

You complain about Waitrose being too middle class and nice. Just be grateful you don't support Sheffield Wednesday with their Chupa-Chups logo or Portsmouth with a childish TY inside a heart. Seee below:

Did Cilla cost us?

by moo » 17 May 2009 12:13

The second Sir John started getting a 'suprise suprise' and spending money on Cilla, he kind of forgot about the club a bit. Thus, we went on a downward spiral.

Yes Waitrose did cost us - but at least we got a little green token to put in the charity vox of our choice.

Did Puma cost us?

by moo » 17 May 2009 12:17

Before Puma upgraded us from KIT@ to Puma we looked a bit more confident on the pitch.

I feel Puma has given the players a arrogant and somewhat chavvy mindset, whereas KIT@ kept the boys feet on the ground.

I think to really punish them we should change to Hi-Tec

Kit@ shirts were like sandpaper so perhaps the players got too comfortable.

We won the Championship and finished 8th in the Prem with the PUMA.

Glad to see you've considered those two seasons in your 'glowing' assesment!

You know, he's a big scary lion. Might've frightened some of the younger players.
