Agent Balti But seriously, why on earth would Murty or Parkinson make good managers because they're legendary in club folklore. Remove the oh so important cog of 'played for Reading once' and what do you actually have that's so attractive? Not much (and no badges in Murty's case, unless he's been doing them on the side.)

It's a character and understanding of the game thing isn't it?
Being able to motivate and lead a squad is a big part of being a manager. It doesn't follow that the best captains or best players make the best managers, but having the right character for the role will certainly help.
It's hard to tell from afar how much a player really understands about what the team needs to function properly, how the manager has set them up, and how he manages the personalities in the squad, but in some cases the captain can be quite involved in that.

Yes, but the sheer blind faith that it's the best thing since sliced bread...that's what I fail to understand.
