yuomi out.

and isnt this a little bif of an insult to murts? there was mass hype talk of a showpiece with celtic and now the best we can muster is a reading promotion xi....? no disrespet to the team, i seem to remember them having a rather fond place in my heart, but is there even any word on who is going to be showing up for it?

Wouldn't you much rather this than Celtic reserves? I think it's a brilliant idea providing the majority of the players get involved.

Yeah but no away fans will create that horrible air horn atmosphere and nobody will give a flying oxf*rd about the score. Pretty disappointed really.

With the Hughes and Igoe thing, it's a very fair comment that if we only bring back the 05/06 players we only consider Murty's last 4 years at Reading, out of 11. What about the likes of Williams, Forster, Cureton, Parkinson, Salako and quite a few others who were very popular whilst Murty was at the club and indeed also played under Coppell. They should feature somehow.

Quite right. You should always laugh at people offering to help out a mate...

It's meant to be a match honouring our most successful team in history. Hughes in that team would make it a farce.

It's not meant to be a match honouring that 05/06 team. It's meant to be a match honouring Murty and his service to the club, which for 3 years included the best team in our history. Igoe and Hughes were his team mates and friends and should be allowed to take part some how. I'm very worried that Coppell, Hahnemann and others could hijack this match. Don't forget the promotion winning 01/02 squad, for whom Murty was player of the season. How's Nicky Forster going to feel if he's made to miss this one out? I have the impression that Murty and Forster are 2 very close friends. However he left in June 2005, should he be excluded from the testimony despite playing with Murty for 6 years or so?

Ok, then maybe the committee who are organising this could make it the 106 squad v Reading Legends... Now I know a lot of people wouldn't call some of those ex players like Hughes and Igoe legends, but it would make it a more enjoyable match to watch I think. So it would include players from the past 10/11 years that have played with Murty vs anybody we can get from the 106 squad.

Would that make you happy?

I don't care who's playing to be honest. I want to give our greatest ever captain the right send off is all.

Should have changed the whole quote, and done it properly, to make it look more realistic. Thanks. Cleared off the line.

i love how hughsie gets slated on here all the time yet played a pivatol role in our play off season in div one playing just off forster. anyone remember goals against forest? wolves? a couple at walsall? he gave his all for our club. but do agree it would make a mockerey of the 106 team if he was in it. maybe a subsitute cameo role with rouge :P

OOooh, yeah, Rouge. Let's get Anthony back, and Curo, and Butler... Everyone who played (I mean properly played, not came on for 20 minutes once as a sub never to be seen again) with M-U-R-T-Y should get the chance to show their appreciation of the man. Parky can come back and play a bit as well. Reading 106 vs Reading 1998-2009.
