Dan Harding

by torbayroyal » 26 May 2009 11:14

Excuse me if I have missed this already but I see that Dan Harding has been released. I only saw him a few times on TV but he looked pretty good.
Q. Is he pretty good?

If yes what a time to be without a manager.
Q. Has a managerless club ever signed a player?

First question, yes, he's good, but I reckon Chris Armstrong is better.

Second question, probably.

Apprently his best position if left midfield. Which we could need cover for if/when Shunt leaves...

I very much hope the DofF is trying to make this happen now, or at least has had a '95% sure we will offer you a contract please dont commit yourself for 10 days' type conversation.

Probably the best player for us in the last 5 games IMO.

He was superb up at Burnley, kept eagles extremely quiet

I think this is it - they will wait for a new manager first and then put Harding to him. You never know the new bloke might have someone else in mind so signing Harding without the new boss' say so will be a tad risky for both parties....

He's made noises about wanting to play for us, so it makes sense for him to wait until the new manager is unveiled before committing himself elsewhere. That is unless an offer came along that he simply couldn't refuse.

Personally I agree with the Rouge, he's been our best player as of late and it makes a lot of sense to bring him in to strenghten what is a pretty weak left-side.

Lets face it. Harding wasn't very good was he? He did 'ok' in his time but he's ain't great.

Granted he's no Ashley Cole, but he's pretty steady.

Harding is a good footballer and would have played if we had made it to Wembley. If fit, Armstrong would have been on the bench still trying to work out how to lace Nicky Who`s boots.

Sign him up.

Play Harding at home, Armstrong away.

PERFECT.

I sign him and try him as a left side midfielder, he cannot possibly be worse than any of the wasters playing there this season and it would be an advantage to have decent cover at left back. He looks like he has the right attitude and, for me, this is a huge priority.

Whilst the outcome (sign him) would be the same, from what I have seen I feel his best position is left back, rather than left mifdfield/wing.

Thought he was mediocre to poor against Birmingham & Norwich, but good against Burnley. Decent cover for Armstrong with Golbourne out the picture. I simply can't see him as a left winger, or even left midfielder though.

I thought he was really good against Norwich tbh. Didn't see him against Derby, and the Birmingham game I have blocked from my memory.

I thought he did pretty well in the games I saw him play and it couldn,t have been very easy for him having played so little since his loan signing in January.
And if he was signed how much better would he be with a full pre-season behind him.????

Sign him. When Stretch got injured most people said oh shite wot we going to do with our best player (of the season )out and in came Dan and performed as well as Armstrong. So lets nab him both as cover and as a left side midfielder where he can also play.

Harding looks a capable full back but from what I saw of him, his distribution was woeful. IIRC though, didn't Armstrong play left side midfield a lot at Sheffield? Maybe a ready made solution to the left sided problem from within the squad. Sign Harding at full back and push Armstrong forward.
