Odetoyinbo to leave Reading
Posted on: Tue 09 Jun 2009
The Royals can confirm that Sports Scientist Kunle Odetoyinbo is leaving the Club.

Kunle moved to Madejski Stadium in August 2007 from Wolverhampton Wanderers, having previously worked with both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Director Of Football Nick Hammond told readingfc.co.uk, "I would like to wish Kunle all the very best for the future.

"He has done a fantastic job for this club over the past two years and is an excellent Sports Scientist.

"He leaves the Club now but has the best wishes of all concerned."

No point in getting sentimental. Football's a tough business. Rodgers clearly knows the team he wants around him and the team he wants on the pitch.

Thanks Kunle. All the best.

Rodgers
Hammond
Dolan
Gibbs
McDermott
Bibbo

Plus the 3 new guys coming in from Watford.

Bit of a change from the days when the staff consisted of Jack Mansell and Jimmy Wallbanks (and was Dougie Evans looking after the reserves ?)

Not all of those would coach the first team squad on a daily basis. Presumably that would fall to Rodgers, Austin, Lampard Snr and Bibbo.

Fearn, Stanbury and Halabi are the medical, massage and sports science chaps with Gibbs and McDermott looking after the youngsters/reserves and Dolan the Academy.

Bibbo’s the odd one out. Really hope we’re bringing in a top-notch goalkeeping coach.

What makes you think Bibbo isn't a good goalkeeping coach ?

It's possibly the strongest position at the club at the moment in terms of depth of talent.

I have no idea if he is any good, but I see nothing that says he isn;t fit for the job - he just hasn;t got a top notch playing background.

Don't forget Eamonn DOlan has his own full team working with the Academy - Ed Franklin is the Academy Sports Scientist, (top bloke by all accounts), plus they have their own specialist coaches too. It's a pretty impressive professional approach these days, and will only get better. Possibly a good reason that the Academy is so well thought of in the club and beyond - it's almost a team within a team.

Really looking forward to the likes of Henry, Baggie, Pearce, Kelly, Karacan staking their claims next season. As I've said before, given 2 or 3 years, the Academy has the makings of producing something special, so I'm not expecting a major push for the PL this season or next. (Which of course means we'll either walk this league next year of get relegated  )

McDermott has very little role with the reserves now tbf, as he's full time chief scout. From what I remember, Coppell called him the best scout he had ever worked with.

That's true. He certainly seemed to play a prominent role, albeit high up in Upper West, on matchdays.

With absolutely no substance whatever! Perhaps Alan Partridge could offer us his more specialised view. FWIW, my view in terms of first team keepers, was that the basis of two decent players was/is there. Marcus had his strengths, Fed's got his. I'm not sure either of them have really improved, and more worryingly their key weaknesses haven't been resolved. That's where Bibbo's got to earn his corn.

Federici seems to have come on pretty well for a player kipping on someones floor and training with us without a contract for his chance at the big time. Maybe Bibbo has had a lot to do with his development thus far.

Dismissing someone for not having been a great keeper is stupid. If Rodgers doesn't rate him he'll get rid. Otherwise he's good enough.

:| Never mentioned Bibbo before, only Andersen in which I've seen 3 matches of his in which he was abysmal in all of them at Blue Square Premier level. Followed by a loan spell at Brighton where they sent him back after a couple of games because again, he was appalling.

Not a massive fan of Federici personally but he'll probably be ok, not as good as Hahnemann who'll be a big miss next season.

Hard to tell the real merits of coaches as we don't see what they do,just 40minutes of warm up in which Bibbo does what every gk coach does. Few shots, few crosses, few kicks. Hahnemann really likes Bibbo though, reading his diaries he refers to Bibbo with great warmth and appreciation. Think you could definitely say Federici is a much better keeper now than he was, Andersen no more comment,Hamer has improved by going out on loan and actually doing well when on loan. It's an interesting position for Rodgers this summer.Lots of new managers want 'their' goalkeeper when they go to a new club, he has got a few keepers here but all young and fairly unproven still at this level, I wouldn't be 100% shocked if he went and got another one.

Think that's one for the worth reading column and 150 in the complete drivel column! Cheers!

I think Federici or Hamer do deserve the opportunity to at least start the season unless someone really good and proven appears on the market. Saw Paddy Kenny was transfer listed briefly last season, or Joe Hart someone of this calibre if they were available and wanted to come to Reading then Rodgers would be silly not to look at it. The likeliness is minimal though, Federici deputised for Hahnemann well, he never really had massive amounts to do in the games i saw but what he did he did well so he has probably earned the right to be number 1 for now. Hamer is the interesting one for me, outstanding at Crawley at 18 years old, outstanding at Brentford for 2 seasons and in particular last season, we might have a really talented young keeper here that (andy gray style) mebbe just mebbe may takeover and exceed Federici. We'll see on that one.

Andersen needs to go somewhere on loan for a long spell and play 25 games+. Even if it's at Blue Square level, doesn't matter needs to go and play. Saw that Brentford had discussed having him, would be ideal for him not sure it'd be ideal for them! :P
