Apathy & Boredom- Dullest Pre-Season Ever

by madstadblues » 31 Jul 2009 16:21

Has this been the least exciting pre-season in recent times?

* No coverage of Swedish tour
* Minimal transfer activity
* No kit controversy
* Wave of apathy across the club / fans

I was interested to know if others

Oh what's the point.......

Pre-season's are dull.
All forgotten about once the season starts.
Don't be seduced by this 12 month football stuff.

Yep. Smoking cigars and dreaming of promotion parties as Jimmy Kebe scores his 25th goal of the season to secure the title in the last game of the season.

How can you say it has been boring ?

There were the heroics at Cardiff, the drama at Lords, Watson in the Open and the Lions tour, a great Tour de France by the Brits and F1 has kicked back into life too.

What more could you want ?

Yep, the most boring ever with our tight ar$ed chairman spending it counting his money and issuing BR with the dictat "you will say money is available" ps just don't tell them it's only a £10 for f88K sake...

I have to agree - it's been rather dull but hopefully that'll be a good sign for the coming season.

It would be better than the 'high class' coverage teams like Newcastle get!

Holy crap pre-seaon's over and we only have a week

by rhroyal » 02 Aug 2009 22:14

Everything has caught me by surprise, pre season went pretty quick for me. Now I've been hit by a pretty hard realisation that we've released Marcus, Murty, Duberry, Lita and sold Doyle and have brought in......Bertrand on loan. Good competition to last year's player of the season I guess. Lots of things I'd hoped to have happened by the end of August haven't really happened. We don't have Jack Cork on loan, we haven't brought in Priskin or Smith to replace Doyle and SHunt is still a royal. I was hoping we'd have sold him and brought in a replacement.

It's still only 2nd August, there is another month. However Rodgers was in office at the start of June, I imagine he'd have wanted to have most of his dealings wrapped up by now. Despite this I'm still optimistic about next season. It's looking like we really give the likes of Pearce, Henry, Karacan, Robson-Kanu, Church and Mooney a chance. Could we also finally see Marek given a role that brings the best out of him? However I think this season must now be viewed as a cornerstone, or building block, for success in future years. I don't expect it so much to be a push for promotion. It's time to be patient as Reading fans again. I'm fine with that, so long as we do at least make steady progress.

P.s. Has Nunt been fit enough for any pre-season games? Best striker at the club now.
