Mr Optimist Loved a chant away at Palace when we won there in a generally woeful 87/88 season when I think we were bottom of the old Second Division and they had a decent side looking to go up.

We won 3-2 iirc and we sang a self-depreciating classic...."What's it like to lose to us????!!, what's it like to lose to us????!!!"""

I like us. We may not be a great side for songs. But we are pretty self deprecating at times and we know where we come from. Hence "We're not real Madrid.." Sums us up perfectly.

We aren't the best or the biggest and we never will be. But we are Reading, with our own qualities and strengths and that is plenty to be proud of.

A few funny ones come to mind...

"ASBO, ASBO whats the score", witty and appropriate
"Come in a taxi, you could have come in a taxi" England -v- Macedonia U21's to the 10 macedonians
..

and many many more , available on "Now thats what I call football chants vol 1"

"Rufus is dogs name" to Rufus Brevitt. He got quite wound up about it.

Yeah backfired on us quite a bit. Even if it was great fun.

I still like the [now ageing]...

We're Reading
We're Reading
We'll Kick your
oxf*rd head in

Even if its sentiments are a load of old tripe (as per the Swindon "...So we stab 'em" bollocks) but it is at least unique to us and always raises a smile.

Well, for Sir Rodney anyway, I don't think they liked it in the family enclosure. I don't know why.

Maybe because you had not inserted your privates back in your trousers yet from the earlier chorus of...

"we'll be running around the Family Enclosure with our willies hanging out, singing I've got a bigger one than you, I've got a bigger one than you, etc etc"?

Just a thought.
