Where are they now?

by Gordons Cumming » 14 Sep 2009 14:51

It would interesting if we could post the whereabouts of past players as see what they're doing now.

I'd like to know what Gordon Cumming is doing now if he's still alive.

I'll start.

Robin Friday - Dead

I met Gordon Cumming in one of the Upper West bars prior to a match last year. Nice guy, quite quiet. Not sure what he's doing now though to be honest.

I wanna know what happened to David Bass.

Gordon is a painter and decorator (or was when we played Wigan in the playoffs a few years back !) I sat next to him at that game and had quite a decent chat with him. IIRC it was the first game he'd been to for years.

Billy Whitehurst and Percy Freeman.

Put those two in the ring and you would have had one hell of a fight.

This won't help at all, but in 1979, not long after leaving RFC, Gordon was a server in the coffee bar next to Henley station.

FACT.

John Minty Murray? Perhaps my favourite ever player

Last seen by me in the Roebuck, Tilehurst in 1985 (?), because he was going out with the landlady.

Anyone know what Ade Williams is doing now. I read he had left Swindon under a cloud but nothing since. Web search doesn't produce anything up to date.

Paul Holsgrove lives in Ascot and works in PR and promotions.

I saw Adi Williams a couple of years ago, in the concourse in the East or West Stand.

I'm really pleased for our Trev - currently manager of Bridport Town FC and still in the FA Cup qualifying stage - replay at home tomorrow night against Truro. His son plays for them in defence too.

Colin Duncan and Stuart Beavon are still painters and decorators. Martin Hicks is still a postman I believe. Jerry Williams is a financial adviser. Wonder what Gary Heale is doing now?

Ady Williams is currently unemployed I believe.

Adie Williams plays for Swindon Supermarine now in the Zamaretto League which is the current name of the Southern League. In the summer he had agreed a deal to sign for Weston-Super-Mare, managed by Andy Gurney, in the Conference South but the deal fell through.

Tom Jones used to play for Swindon Supermarine.

I was actually searching out Dylan Kerr last week and found out he's football development officer for Argyle and Bute in Scotland. Seems a fairly standard job for an ex-pro.

Jerry Williams - One of the guys who played in the team that won the simod cup, lives in oxfordshire and is now a part-time accountant and a regular curry-house-goer. Has two sons and lives in oxfordshire & both go to my school

Indeed. The only RFC centre forward (they didn't do strikers in those days) with a better goal scoring rate than the fabled Ronnie Blackman. He was also RB's predecessor and mentor.

Looked on the Swindon Spuermarine site and they don't List Adie as a player or coach. Same is true of Weston Supermare.

Swindon Supermarine do have Matt Robinson though so thats another one ticked off.

BTW, Andy Hughes is still at Leeds but not playing 1st team I think.
