Are we going down?

by TBM » 17 Sep 2009 10:21

Simple question.............do you believe we will go down this season?

Taking the RTG off for a second and stop living in the past - so you honestly feel we can stay up?

I don't think so - despite some short-Cummings, our defence is too strong. Once we get the right combination clicking in midfield (last night's match took us a step closer to that) and some oomph up-front (either Hunt-Rasiak works out or we get a player in on loan) we should pick up enough points against weaker teams. So far, we've 'only' lost to teams that I believe will finish in the top six - it's just a matter of being bolder, braver, quicker and maybe a bit luckier against our rivals at the arse-end. I reserve the right to change my view at 5pm on Saturday!

Not a fukin chance.

The team we put out last night is easily capable of competing for a top 10 place.

It's gonna come good, and there would be no better way to sort out our home form than to give Watford a good thrashing.

How does win, draw, loss as a sequence show signs of improvement?

a team that can't score goals is always going to struggle. I think it's going to be close for the drop.

Yes. I feel we can be safe in midtable. FFS, look at how many goals we've scored and conceded this season, and then look at our league position. Not even in the relegation area. And we look like we're improving game-by-game.

Depends who you're playing - if the sequence is relegation certainties, solid mid-table bore-draw experts, one of the favourites to go up, you might conclude that it's better to look beyond the results towards the actual performances.

Having said that, Doncaster was not an improvement on Barnsley in my opinion.

Dirk Gently Not a chance - things can only get better and there are signs of it every game.

Is there? All I see is a reasonable passing side, no width, lack of creativity and no real goal threat. So apart from the occasional clean sheet and some fancy keep ball, it's all pretty worrying really.

I don't think it's anywhere as dire as that - yesterday's performance would have beaten the majority of teams in the CCC, for instance, and the majority of our problems are of a team that's young, newly-together and trying to learn each other's game and how to play the system. All of that certainly will get better with time. It really does take time for any team to gel..

The biggest problem, of course, is lack of goals - there's no easy answer to that, except that I believe that once the midfield players are more comfortable with the system then they'll get more into the attack, as well as the full-backs having the confidence to come forward and overlap properly. If we weren't creating chances I'd be worried but we are, and we can only create more - I think this "home-game" jinx is hanging over everyone so they're trying to make sure too much, rather than shooting by instinct. It'll come right, I'm sure.

Apart from the Doncaster game (which was a step-back because we had 3 new faces) things are looking better with each game, and I'm still confident we'll finish in the top half of the table (just!).

As to relegation - if we're relegated this season I'll happily stand bollcok-naked on the centre-spot at the MadStad before a game and dance on a Reading shirt.

Well we slept walked into an avoidable relegation once before. Lesson will have been learnt from that, but you must never say never in this game.

What worries me is we just don't look like we can score enough goals to win a game at the moment and confidence must be pretty low after Rodgers spent the whole summer building it up.

We should be fine, certainly enough good signs to feel positive.

People have such short memories though. The same people calling people twats for question Rodgers are the same that defended Coppell to the hilt...

I don't think we'll go down, but I am disappointed at the acceptance of a mid-table finish when we spent most of last season pushing for automatic promotion.

As I've said before, my concern is of a scenario where we are mid-table by Feb and then have a run of poor form and end up in a relegation battle with a load of kids.
