Should a new keeper be a January priority?

by juanpablo » 18 Oct 2009 09:26

Clearly we have problems all over the park but if every point is going to be scrapped for can we trust A Fed?

Seems like a decent bloke that cares but if some of our less bright fans are going to welcome people like Bikey leaving because they cannot be trusted, how can we keep hold of Fed?

You are having a laugh. Had you seen Feds are Preston in the second especially you wouldn't have made such a stupid statement. If it wasn't for him we would have lost even after being 2 - 0 up.

I think it could be a good idea though to bar Brendan from the dressing room at half time because it looks like his team talks are going to go down in Reading folk law

He is a great keeper on form but could easily lose us as many games as he wins us (especially with us not scoring a lot)

Whilst he arguably gave away two goals yesterday he also stopped at least 3 more with incredible saves. It would be nice to have someone more consistent but realistically we are not likely to get anyone better and there are more pressing needs in most other positions.

Keeper position is fine, far more other worrying postions.

Right back.
Creative Midfielder.
2 goal scoring strikers.

Great keeper? Has his moments, however he must communicate more with his defence...and stop coming to far off his line. This happened more than once yesterday, which was the cause of two goals....as happend against Watford a couple of weeks ago!

I would have thought a decent goalscorer is far more of a priority.

The problem with Fed is he's only 25. Keepers are no good until they're 28. Only three years to wait.

I think Feds will be a good keeper in the future. In our predicament we can’t afford a GK to be making mistakes.

So many goals have provided question marks over his ability. Cardiff (h), Peterborough (a) beaten at his near post. Watford (h) didn’t come of his line. Yesterday 1st and 3rd goal his fault. The defence does not look confident with him behind it.

He is a great shot stopper, but that’s his job to make saves. A GK is judged on their mistakes and at this age he’s making too many.

An experienced loanee is needed. Maybe USA? 8)

A goalkeeper is only as good as the players in front of him. That said, going walkabout is hardly going to instil any confidence in the players in front of him.

Don't have to wait till January do we?

Nor do I think we should.

Disagree, I've seen some very good keepers behind some pretty poor teams - it's when they get the chance to really shine!

Adam Liability is a great shot-stopper, but that's not enough - his positional sense and judgement are both absolutely dire.

Don't think we actually need that much, if anything. I think th esquad on the whole is fine. I just want rid of Rodgers and someone who can use them to come in.

A fullback, a striker, a box to box/defensive midfielder (if we continue to play 5 in midfield) and a winger would be my ideal shopping list. The striker is the only absolute must if we continue with 1 up front.

A keeper can be great for 95% of the match and make lots of good saves but if he makes two mistakes and costs us 2 goals then we are always going to struggle to win matches.

Unfortunately for Federici he is making too many simple mistakes revolving around his decision making and taking of crosses. So he can make 25 excellent saves during a game (that probably most other keepers would make) but if he makes 2 wrong decisions then those saves are irrelevant.

And this isn't just a one-off. He has made quite a lot of bad mistakes and Hamer needs to be given a go.
