Focher Ingimarsson + Pearce = PACE

Ingimarsson = goals galore for the opposition team on current form.

I can see where BR is coming from and I find it depressing that most sides are promoted from this league playing route one.

It is even more depressing that once promoted sides can survive playing the same way in the prem - I saw 10 mins of Stoke play on Football First the other week and straight from the kick-off the ball was launched at the far corner flag to gain ground -rugby style.

How often do you see a prem game where a side holds possession for more than 15 secs? I have just got back from hols in the Algarve and we can learn a lot from the way they play in terms of basic control and keeping the ball.

That is why the national side will never win anything - with only a handful of prem sides that try and play properly (largely packed with non English players) our players have not got the necessary technique and ability to win games late in tournements.

But charging around like legless chickens and humping the ball forward is what the english game is all about. The great Johan Cruyff said that he loved playing against english clubs as they always gave you the ball.

It is also about perception. Wimbledon were unfashionable and played the long ball. Glenn Hoddle was an elegant footballer and could play 50-60 yard cross field balls. This is typical of the media being the patronising arses that they always are.

I also find it strange that Matt Mills, a player signed by BR for a not inconsiderable amout of money, spent 90% of Monday lumping the ball forward. Somtimes, people who live in glass houses...

The same Matt Mills that was lauded as a ball playing centre half in the mould that Rodgers liked.

Getting carried away by one win and then this.
Is it really that hard to keep your mouth shut when your teams`performances are well below what people expect?
2 home matches now and you know you`ll be crucified when these turn out to be losses
His handling of the press is probably the worst I have ever seen since Mourinho(well...van Gaal is even worse), but at least Mourinho could afford it.

And then this?

He would have made these comments yesterday

Ian Royal - exactly, you have to keep going back some time to find another one too

I dont mind Rodgers having principles and sticking to them, and not liking the long ball football some employ, but I dont get where anyone gets the idea the Championship is full of it, let alone it being succesful

Glad you have the gumph to blush and reflect. I'm preety reflective. On Monday I took the trouble to watch how Howard played a bit more closely and was really really impressed. I'm beginning to see the sense of Rodgers signings. I agree with everything he's saying. I have noticed that Reading have played more rugby as the season has progressed, which is understandable, and part of the problem he's trying to tackle.

If he succeeds here, I think its a greater achievement than what he did at Watford:
1. He'll have shown he's consistently resilient and resourceful - pulling Watford up from the brink, then saving Reading from the consequences of its star player haemorraghe
2. He'll have done a brilliant development job, cos if he can get the players passing forward AND winning Championship games, he'll have players who have outshone their expected level of ability and can perhaps compete at a higher level, and shown that he wasn't dependent on PL level players (e.g. Smith) to achieve this, but can do it pretty much from scratch.

I think Leicester was a turning point.

Why can't BR just stop talking for 5 minutes and get on with the more than difficult job at hand. One win since the Preston game and somehow you get the feeling from him that all is great again and we will be in the play-offs by lunchtime tomorrow. I am happy to hear him comment on a string of 4 wins in a row but after the terrible job he has produced so far perhaps it's time for him to say as little as possible to the media and get on with saving RFC from relegation.

Yes, that's right, the Championship is just like rugby?!!! Yes, I understand what he's getting at with perhaps some teams but again it just sounds like yet more comments that nothing is his fault because he is such a footballing genius and it's everything else around him that is the problem or why his bumper book of tactics is not working. David Platt anyone?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_5663144,00.html Rodgers, whose side take on Coventry on Saturday, told the Daily Mirror: "People say you can't play football in this league. Of course you can. If you are brave enough to play you can get results.

"I might not be getting success at the moment but people know how I work and in time I will get there.

"At this level I have seen more games like rugby than football. The easiest thing is to kick the ball upfield and I have seen games where the ball gets kicked up the field and goes out in the final third of the pitch and they throw the ball in. That's rugby.

"If people want to watch that fine. I don't want to watch that and I don't want our supporters to see that.

Yes, it is the easiest thing to do.....that is presumably why your own team spent most of today vs Ipswich smashing long balls up to our front pairing? Don't give us this holier than thou sh*t when your team more often than not serve up ineffective long-ball crud.

Fully agree. I was surpised how many long balls we played today and even more surprised how many Rasiak won in the air. Unfortunately however few of the knock downs went to a team mate.

All part of the world class model from the little boy on the touchline who really hasn't got a clue. There is no cohesion between the players. No-one has a clue what anyone else is going to do. I lost count the number of times that kebe took up the space that Tabb was heading into. Total lack of teamwork led by a buffoon who can not see. I would be a lot more impressed if BR got us playing as a team instead of 11 strangers.

We look to move forward now,” said Rodgers.

It would be difficult to go much further backwards.
