21st December 1985. Reading 4 Plymouth 3. Arguably the greatest game ever to be played at Elm Park.

I was convinced when we were 3-0 down that the bubble had been well and truly burst. Never experienced a game like it or since for sheer pandemonium. The South Bank went absolutely mental. I reckon that was the closest I have ever come to having a heart attack - at the age of 22! Severe pains in my chest when we equalised.

The last ten minutes were just insane: three Reading goals and a sending off. Never experienced a game like it prior or since. I was completely stunned and exhausted at the end. LOLs at the guy standing in front of me on the Tilehurst End, who stormed out when Plymouth went three up.

Best home game I've seen definately

They went to pieces when we got first one - was that the penalty?

I cannot remember the goals all that well apart from they were at the tilehurst end and all close range.

I am sure Gary Peters got their guy sent off when he was time wasting near corner flag after we had taken the lead.

Saturday 21st December 1985
READING 4 Horrix (65 pen), Senior (79, 80), Bremner (83) PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 3 Hodges (10), S. Cooper (44 pen), Clayton (48)
READING: Westwood, Peters, Bailie, Beavon, Hicks, Wood, Rogers, Horrix, Senior, Bremner, Gilkes (Burvill 51)
PLYMOUTH: Crudgington, Nisbet, L. Cooper, Goodyear, McElhinney, Summerfield, Hodges, Coughlin, S. Cooper, Clayton, Nelson. Sub: Rowbotham
Att: 8512

It was Gordon Nesbit who got sent off for trying to lump Andy Rogers into the South Bank when Andy indulged in a little time wasting at the corner flag after the fourth went in.

As for the goals (think my memory serves me right): Deano got the pen, Trevor got a tap in after Deano's cross, barely seconds later Trevor headed in after the keeper flapped at a Peters' free kick and Mad Max bundled it in after another scramble at the far post - all at the Tilehurst End. 3-0 down with 25 minutes to go - insane, insane, insane.
