Agreed, Federici didn't put a foot wrong from what I was watching.

FiNeRaIn I'll give him that, made me laugh also.

His only worthwhile contribution to the thread.

To be honest it was a cheap shot and I apologise, it was just set up so nicely by you !

And good to see you've put things right and decided that Fed simply deserves recognition for a good performance.

Every time you bring a smile to my face !!

Your original contribution damned with faint praise. His performance today was not about an improved defence, neither was your assertion that having less to do makes mistakes less likely correct.

Please don't tell me what I've said, or what I've tried to say, or what I meant. I think I'm slightly better placed to know that.

Go crawl back under your rock you condescending prick.

Well despite your very good impression of a spoiled 12 year old I'll do you the courtesy of a sensible reply....

I wouldn;t dream of telling you what you meant to say, you are of course the only person who knows that.

However it's not unreasonable for others to point out that what you MEANT to say wasn;t necessarily how it came across.

It's a regular thing on HNA that a bit of praise for a player gets knocked down by someone pointing out that for some reason the praise isn;t actually warranted, and your comment came across in that light. If that was not what you intended, or I misinterpreted it then again I'll apologise.

You are however perhaps the most gratuitously offensive person on here and whatever caused your change from a sensible and witty contributor to a bit of a tw*t is to be regretted. Sexual frustration one assumes....

According to the OS :

"Ex-Royal John Oster had the same opportunity minutes later, but his curling free kick was calmly swallowed by Federici"

Might explain the waistline !!

His shot-stopping has always been outstanding, and an improved and settled defence is obviously helping make the deficiencies in his game (positioning, control of the area and judgement) less glaring - plus, of course, they'll get better as he plays more games.

He does have an annoying tendency to make "camera saves", though, which one day will backfire on us.

Not if he continues to make the saves it won't !

Although it's a fiar point - for keepers more than anyone 'keep it simple' seems the way to go.

Feds is a good keeper at this level and appears to be regaining his confidence. Did brilliantly last night for us.

Tend to agree with this, but don't think his "deficiencies" are as big as many seem to think. Also disagree about "camera saves".

When you have a poor defence infront of you, the attackers have more choice and time in which to place the ball, which means if your positioning isn't 100% perfect, the number of shots raining in on you will eventually lead to goals going in you should save. Especially when you and your team are under pressure and lacking confidence.

I've got no problems with Feds concentration or his reflexes / shot stopping, so I'm confident that when spending the game doing nothing he'll still make the crucial saves. As you expect any keeper worth his place to do.

I think Fed is gradually improving (which you'd expect at his age), but I haven't seen the sort of quality distribution and kicking he had last season. Poorer movement for him to kick to or has he got worse at that?

Howard made a goal out of nothing that Long finished very very well.
Long played a simple and obvious ball to Howard after good work from him and Church. Howard then finished very very well through the defenders legs.

Long ran tirelessly and caused defenders problems. Howard broke forward repeatedly joining the attack and finding space, something we've been missing before. Federici pulled of 3 or 4 crucial saves throughout the game.

All contenders. No one sensible can have a complaint for any of them being given MOTM. I fall into the Howard camp personally though.

He had a very solid game and has looked a very good keeper lately.

I now count it least 4 errors absolutely 100% culpable to our goalkeeper this season: Sheff U home, Palace home x 2, WBA FA Cup. Each one of these absolute howlers. Plus you could point to countless goals where his positioning has been poor. Meanwhile Marcus Hahnemann is now getting a regular game in the Premier League; if only Hammond had made some attempt to keep one of our best goalkeepers ever we wouldn't be lumbered with Federici who pulls off the ocassional camera save and gets lauded on here as the Australian Gordon Banks. He's more the Australian Jeff Banks.
