Respect...... I am a convert to the 'new' Shane Long - I wasn't sure - but can't deny the proof of my own eyes - thanks Snowball.

Have always rated Kebe

And for the record - I think Cummings will mature into a decent full back - he also has that magic ingredient - pace!

Snowball. I'm not alone in owing you an apology, but please allow me to humbly extend one. Internet debates are generally pointless - however, if this isn't a wind-up then you've contributed probably the most useful posts of all on this forum. I swear that henceforth I will never again say a bad word about your crazy, wonderful tables and charts...

I just had a horrible thought.

Yesterday I was at a gig in Newbury waiting for Shane Long to appear (my daughter is a big fan)

Shane didn't show!

I was talking to an official from Reading FC about HNA, Shane,
stats, defending players etc.

and then this thread...

Hmmmm...

brendywendy criticism of his weight ignored the long injury lay offs that probably caused it.
people were spouting off as though he had chosen to put on the weight, and couldnt be arsed.

Why do you think people put weight on though? I've been injured for three years and put loads of weight because I drank too much beer and ate too much food. Then I decided I didn't like being fat so toned down my diet to match the reduced amount of exercise I can do. I am now a veritable adonis, even though i can't run anymore.

If Shaun got fat then it's coz he 8 too many Pukka pies and didn't do enough exercise. Don't defend him coz you've let your shit slide, Brenders.

Maguire I think it's clear that relentless hectoring of Shaun and his obvious weight issues have been a catalyst for his good form.

Now for the next target....

Napoleon decreed that there should be a full investigation into Snowball's activities. With his dogs in attendance he set out and made a careful tour of inspection of the farm buildings, the other animals following at a respectful distance. At every few steps Napoleon stopped and snuffed the ground for traces of Snowball's footsteps, which, he said, he could detect by the smell. He snuffed in every corner, in the barn, in the cow-shed, in the henhouses, in the vegetable garden, and found traces of Snowball almost everywhere. He would put his snout to the ground, give several deep sniffs, and exclaim in a terrible voice, "Snowball! He has been here! I can smell him distinctly!" and at the word "Snowball" all the dogs let out blood-curdling growls and showed their side teeth.

Sad thing is, as soon as he goes three games without a goal the baying masses on HobNob will be saying how he shouldn't be a starter, blah blah, etc etc

i have slidy shit, what can i say!

just saying that even with all the rehab in teh world, it can often be that proffesional athletes will gain weight when they are too injured to play their particular sport regularly

TBM It is just me or does anyone else think Long looks lazy, over-weight and like he can't run. Apart from being fouled for the 2nd goal he didn't do anything to help his team mates - no closing down, no off the ball runs and basically gave their defence an easy time.

We need a new striker, Doyle needs to be replaced like for like.

Whilst it's all very well that his on field form has improved i'm slightly concerned about Shane's mathematical ability if he can be swayed by amateurish statistical analysis
