I thought he'd cruise it at that level to be honest.

Guess motivation could be hard for him at this stage and maybe a character clash with Waddock? Both big characters and Waddock is pretty confrontaional.

Interesting. WW's forum was saying he'd gone to Brighton. Can't get much farther apart.

I may have watched his last ever game as a Pro when he turned out for WW against Windsor & Eton in the Bucks & Berks Invitational Trophy. (Actually you'd imagine he'd get a League 2 club if he wants to play at that level, but I suspect he might be focusing on coaching now...)

As you'd imagine he looked very calm and controlled both in defence and in possession, and was coaching the youngsters as the game progressed, but his passing forward left something to be desired. (It was amusing to spot his personal Reg plated Aston Martin in the car park alongside a lot of more ordinary vehicles. Guess he must be set up for life now if he doesn't blow it on something daft.)

...like an Aston Martin.

Cripple Creek Whatever happened to Darius Dwobzwek (spelling?) the finest centre back to have ever worn the hoops in my opinion. Last I heard he was managing a team in Warsaw but had a fall out with the chairman but that was years ago. Jeez, what a player he was. Until then all we had had was the likes of Martin Hicks and Steve Hetzke - full marks for effort but errrrrr not for much else - and then along came a man who looked like he had modelled his game off Beckenbauer. Truly, a joy to watch.

Dariusz was one of the most naturally talented players ever to wear the hoops. Classy defender with a dream of a left peg. My uncle's (fan since '46) all time fave Reading player. I remember a pre-season friendly in '94 and Dariusz knocked a 60-yard diagonal pass right on the money and we all just looked at each other and wondered how the f*ck did we get this guy!

Another memory: Our Polish International getting booked at Pompey in '95 and someone yelled out to the ref "Spell that, you pcunt!"

Sadly, Darius was also responsible for us not holding on to the lead at Wembley against Bolton. He had the chace to bring de Freitas down but he was too honest. If it had been Adie Williams in that position he'd have been sent off, but we would've probably won.

Wdowzyck was awesome.

I still want him to come back and manage us just because I thought he was so bloody brilliant.

Henleyensian I remember that match well. If think I am correct in saying it was the ffirst match of the millennium on 1st January 2000.

<Spacey Mode>The new millenium started on 1st January 2001</Spacey Mode>

Two things I always remember about Skittles, one good, one bad.

The bad one was a game at EP (and I can't for the life of me remember who it was against). He was brought on as a sub by TB1, then taken off again about 10 minutes later. First time I can recall a sub who wasn't injured themselves being subbed.

The good was the Wrexham home game in the first year at the MadStad. Skittles was causing them all sorts of problems, and (legitimately, for once) won and scored two penalties. Should have had a third as well, but the ref waved the appeals away. We beat them 4-0 even so.

(Unfortunately the next game we got thrashed by Bristol Rovers 0-6...)

Martin Williams was a subbed sub v WBA in the LC 20/09/95 at EP.

Dariusz - THE Polish international. I've said it many times, but Simon Shepperd has a-lot to answer for (as we know). Without question his worst crime was crocking Dariusz in a ridiculous sequence of events that resulted in him taking him out as he steamed out of the box. This was the opening game of the 95/96 season (post Wembley) against Luton. They scored in the cock-up and we we won 3-1 but Dariusz never fully recovered from the injury and I never saw our best centre back again

I'm sure I read somewhere that he was caught up in a fraud / match rigging scandle in Poland.

Won the title with Legia Warsaw a few years back.

But hasn't worked for a couple of years since leaving Polonia Warsaw due to bribery allegations (personally, I'm having none of that).

I shall have the pleasure of watching Michael Meaker ply his trade for Mangotsfield at Windsor & Eton on Saturday.

They unexpectedly beat Gosport Borough 3-0 last night and, according to one of their players, "Michael Meaker up front was superb, he is an old bloke now but he has still got it and he won them the game..."

I noticed also that Grant Brebner is playing for Melbourne Victory in the Australian A-League, he played in the final last week and scored the only penalty in the shootout for Melbourne, Ironically the victory lost.

I watched the game live and Brebner was outstanding throughout.
