If this were to happen we'd be 3 points off the play-offs with 2 games in hand

bassavage I have just read though that if you go into administration after the fourth Thursday in March (i.e. tomorrow) then the deduction doesn't count for this year and carries over to next year instead.

The Board of The Football League As the insolvency event occurred after The Football League's deadline of the fourth Thursday in March, the points deduction will take effect either:
1.In the current season, if Southampton avoid relegation to League 1;
or
2.next season, if the club does not avoid relegation.

Deadlock It's a little more complicated than that. I can't find the full regulations on the football league's site, but this statement with regards to Southampton's administration last season should clear it up:-The Board of The Football League As the insolvency event occurred after The Football League's deadline of the fourth Thursday in March, the points deduction will take effect either:
1.In the current season, if Southampton avoid relegation to League 1;
or
2.next season, if the club does not avoid relegation.
