We plan to appeal the red card, to me it looks like it was a sending off.

That's the way I saw it, a 50-50 and Mills was just the stronger of the two. I don't know whether he was supposed to pull out of the tackle or what. Wtf is he supposed to do?

Yep a 50/50 challenge. The difference being that Mills got up and wasn't looking for the red card to be shown.

You might have a point in that Norris had already been booked for diving.

I must admit I did think the Ipswich players were a bit on the Keano side of dirty all afternoon. Every time a Reading player looked to be getting the better of their opponent there was a sly dig here, a shirt tug there. Obviously been told to do that.

Dirk Gently Risk is an extra game's suspension if the appeal is lost.

Only if the appeal is considered "frivolous" by the FA. You can lose an appeal and still not have an extra game tagged on.

I've freeze framed this and it wasn't quite a 50-50. Norris got there first and made contact with the ball. Mills, studs up as he was reaching for the ball, then made contact with Norris' lower leg. However, it was not two-footed as stated by the commentator on the football l eague show.
I will be surprised if the red card is rescinded on appeal.

One footed, foot not raised, possibly slightly late. That is not the description of a red card foul.

That's the problem with manager's moaning about challenges. Everytime a strong tackle goes in that's slightly late, it's called two footed and it tends to stick.

I've watched it a few times and it's not a red for me. It was marginally late and strong, so perhaps deserved a yellow, but he'd booked Norris for diving when he was definitely taken out by ZK and as mentioned elsewhere the ref was trying to get noticed. Definitely cost us the match.

Pearce is the tye of player who needs a run of games to find his best form, so maybe a run in the side will show us what he's made of. Not sure if Cisse or Gunnarsson would do much better.

Not a red for me either but I think he'll lose the appeal as it was very slightly late with the studs showing and slightly off the ground.

Not a red card, and from then on the game was pretty much over for us.

Makes me laugh though, Carl Henry was sent off for Wolves yesterday at Arsenal for a mistimed tackle on Rosicky who went down in a heap...You won't be able to tackle in football soon...

Paperwork has to be completed today, meaning he will be eligible for Monday, with the actual hearing mid-week.

Typical 50-50 for me.

Mills was the more commited. The Ipswich player bottled it.

I was always told to go in hard on 50-50's or you'd get hurt. Wasn't told you'd get a red if the other player didn't.

Stupid ref.

Would be interesting to hear a bit more about why it wasn;t a red.

A challenge being 50-50 doesn;t stop it being a red card.

Was the challenge reckless (ie Mills went in in a way that showed a lack of regard for the safety of the other player) ? If so it was a red whether it was '50-50' or not. That would usually mean two footed, high, studs up, clearly not aimed at the ball. Whether he played the ball or not isn't terribly relevant. You can play the ball and it still be a red card offence if the element of recklessness is still there./

McD does seem to have a good perspective on things generally and it seems to me if he thinks it worth an appeal there must be some merit in it.

I think the article on the official site does that, or haven't you read it?

I've watched it a few times now, he can't have gone over the ball because the ball hit the back of his heel. He was second to the ball (and therefore late, but I'm pretty sure that makes it a yellow not a red), but both players got a touch on it, Mills touch deflected the ball.

His studs were showing no more than any other tackle, his toes are pointed towards the ball and studs were as down as it is comfortable for it to possibly be.

He looks like he comes off the ground for a second so the appeal board may argue he was not in control and it was therefore reckless.
