Is this post for real or just another of your childish wind ups :| I'll assume it's the former.

Wimb Possibly would agree on the Karacan point but a team with Harper in it also smashed Bristol City and got many other good results in a team that finished 4th.

And the team containing Karacan and Gunnarsson in the centre hammered Wolves in their own backyard at a time when we were looking like certs for promotion but as soon as Harper returned to fitness Coppell found a reason to re-inatate him

Wimb As for the Sig, I hardly think throwing him into the mix at a young age with little first team experience in a concerted promotion effort would have been wise. Yes it could have worked, but even such talents as David Beckham, John Terry, Jermaine Defoe etc have all been out on loan and arguably come back better as a result of their loan spells. Very very few players make the grade straight away and I think for the Sig it's been far better for him to come into a team with lower expectations and lots of other young players. Just opinion but there you go

After scoring 16 goals from midfield, considered too good to have kept had we been relegated and unlikely to be here next summer unless we return to the top flight, it is simply utter nonsense to make such ill informed judgements based on what exactly? 19 year olds playing at this level are not a rarity and the chances are that someone who has become a star player within months of Coppell's departure was ready to be blooded last season but, as was the case with most players who threatened his inner circle, he just made sure it didn't happen. If this wasn't the case his ability to spot young talent isn't half what it's cracked up to be and, either way, by the time he left he had become our biggest roadblock to future success.

Wimb If I remember correctly it was SSC himself who started with Tabb in the centre during the final games of last season, including both Burnley games.

So having all but toosed our promotion hopes out of the window Tabb gets his chance in the last 2 games :|

Wimb Not very fair a comparison really and it's besides the point as Harper has left the club. As for a strong central midfield, I'd consider a team that finished 4th to generally have 'one of the strongest central midfield squads in the division

And you think my comparison is unfair :P Oddly enough, I'm comparing the strength of our midfield now Harper plays 150 miles up the M1 to when it was throwing promotion out with the bath water earlier this year when our form was closer to a team threatened by relegation than looking for a swift return to the top flight..........................................as I said before, much of our best form last season took place when Harper was injured.

Wimb I really believe a manager such as SSC who has managed us to such success would pick the best XI players in his opinion. Perhaps he waited too long for others to come back into form but I find the notion that he 'blocked' players to be a bit silly.

It's not silly, it's cr@p management and judging by the relegations on his CV and what some Palace fans say, he'd been there before. He builds fantastic teams and hangs onto to them for dear life until they implode.

Wimb As many others have stated, it's stupidity to buy a player before you've sold one of your high earners. All it would have taken was a big injury to shorey and bam there goes 3.5 million and we still have to pay 20k a week or whatever it was. As it turned out no club made a satisfactory offer until the very eve of the season. Armstrong was signed swiftly after Shoreys eventual departure and was POS so Id say good move to be honest.

This goes right to the heart of why, with the benefit of hindsight, Coppell should have left a season earlier than he did.

It might be silly to uneccessarily ramp up the wage bill but we started last season without any realistic cover for a player who had spent the previous campaign looking like he'd prefer castration to playing for us. His disinterest was a major factor in our relegation yet his place was never in doubt and, staggeringly, Coppell was prepared to start the next campaign with a winger at left back whilst he prayed he could hang onto to player who couldn't have made it clearer that he wanted to leave. There is no better example of the price we were expected to pay in order that he could keep his beloved team in tact.

Despite all his obvious success here, as a fan who cares ultimately about the club, I strongly resent how Steve Coppell effectively left us where he found us when it should never have been the case.

Basingstoke Royal Excellent news.

One of the players of the season for me.

Being asked to play centre back, right back and centre midfield and giving 100% every time.

yup only Reading fans could doubt him

BobKnows I'm not embarrassed to say I LOVE THIS MAN.

He's getting on 35, has the air of a workhorse, and yet has moments of genius, and you just know you are going to get an absolutely commited performance everytime he is on the pitch. LOVE HIM, LOVE HIM, LOVE HIM

+1, although I 'specially like the way you started saying "I'm not embarrassed" and ended by being embarrassed  I guess he inspires that kind of feeling ....

Will rue the day he ever leaves us though. I remember Watford fans coming on here saying "we miss him  ", well I understand why.

IcelandicStokie Apparently he will stay at Reading!!!!! Not good news.

"I have been told by the club that they want to offer me a new contract and we will start negotiating soon," Gunnarsson told Morgunblaðið.

"I am ready to stay at the club. I feel great here and the team has been on the rise for the last few months. Its certainly a case for optimism next season. We started this season badly which has affected our play off chances.

About the injury he sustained against Newcastle.

"Its not as bad as it appeared at first. I had a blow to the head and landed badly on my shoulder and thats troubling be now, the shoulder," said Brynjar who is optimistic to take part against Peterborough at the weekend.

An Icelandic Phil Parkinson and the type of player old school supporters love. This man earns his salary.

Bryn you are a legend! Very happy to see he is staying.

Helps the younger players and always gives his all.

Also think Cisse and Marek should probably leave at the end of the season.

SpaceCruiser Gunnarsson's magical moment this season was nutmegging the Liverpool defender before whipping in the cross for Shane Long to head in the winner.

I think he's earned another season at Reading.
