Great player, sadly ineffective for us most of the time. Always seemed to be on a different wave length to the others which was a real shame cos he was clearly a master of the defence splitting / sideways pass.

Shame to see him go cos I hoped deep down he would one day fit in but I agree that getting what we have for him is a good bit of business.

I did think that when he was getting a run of starts under Brendan he would finally start showing his worth on a regular basis and start dominating games, but it never really happened - much like his whole career here. Glad we got some money for him and I hope he does well for Sparta.

I’ll always remember him as a player who could in fact score in a brothel.

Same as, Maguire.

Hope we got half decent bit of cash. The guy had loads of skill, just totally ineffective player.

Are they paying by Czech?

Sad to see him leave but in the long run for him as a player playing in the Czech League will suit his style of football better than the hustle and bustle of the championship. If he had a Parkinson type of player alongside him and stayed injury free at Reading there is no doubt in years to come he would have appeared in fans best ever teams.

As he has now signed for the Czech champions we should see him (if they qualify) in the group stages of the champions league and back in the Czech Republic team.

I expected him to make a big impact during our first season back in the Championship.
Oh well!

Blast from the past. Marek playing at Anfield tonight and the commentator observing that "He certainly won't be overawed having scored here for Reading". Once again the mighty Reading go public prior to playing the blue half of Scouse Land.

And this on Sky:

"Matejovsky was on target with a stunning 20-yard strike at Anfield for Reading the year they got relegated from the Premier League."

Frankly, I didn't see anything from him tonight that made me wish we'd kept him.

Yes, he was the best player on the pitch in the first leg and it did make me wistfully wonder whether he couldn't have done a good job in what we now call the "Sig" role.
Tonight, however, away from home, I could see why he never really quite fitted in for us.

Not wasn't good enough for us. Wasn't right for us. He showed over many games he wasn't the player we needed and more than that, wasn't really suited to a full season of games in the English leagues. Of course he can perform in individual games. We knew that already, just as we knew he was a good player.

That doesn't change the fact he wasn't a success here and wasn't what we needed.

All that I saw of tonight's game was Marek picking up his customary yellow card.

It's a shame because I really wanted him to work out at Reading, but it was never to be :(

That made me smirk, typical MM challenge

Good player though

True. Any player can have a blinder in the odd game. Unfortunately for Marek it was once in a blue moon with us.
