Cisse Departs to Bristol City

Midfielder Kalifa Cisse has today completed a move to Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old joined Reading from Portuguese side Boavista in the summer of 2007, and he played 56(+27) times in all competitions, scoring seven goals.

However he was on the fringes of our squad last season, making only 16(+3) appearances in the campaign, the last of which came in a defeat away to Sheffield United at the end of January.

He was coming into the final year of his contract at Madejski Stadium, and this move is a good opportunity for the Royals to continue to manage the squad prudently, now that our Premier League parachute payments have ended.

Director of Football Nick Hammond told readingfc.co.uk, "The timing of this move is right for us, we have a lot of quality in the centre of midfield and Kalifa has not played much football recently.

"We would like to wish him all the very best, he has been a fantastic individual during his time here and has a great personality that we will miss, but the time has now come for him to pursue his career elsewhere."

McDermott in "doing what the fans wanted and what the club needed" shocker! :)

Thanks for the effort Kalifa, but you were never really good enough.

Also, the number 4 shirt is free for Zurab to fill now...

Right, I'm off to find the next rumour that will happen. My strike rate is pretty impressive this summer.......

Happy with this. Decent player, but never really consistent enough to hold down a permanent place in the side. Will always remember how he played Sidwell off the park in his first 45 mins for us.

Good luck Kalifa.

Good luck Khalifa. Shame it never really happened. A few flashes of brilliance mixed in with a lot of ordinary stuff.

Never really got up to the pace of the English game, to easily played around and in all honesty not good enough for a team looking to move forward at this level. Which is why he was 5/6th choice under McD.

Not a great signing for City either, hardly an improvement on Skuse/Elliott.

At least we used to sign Brentford's better players...

Kalifa Cisse has today left Reading to join Bristol City, and manager Brian McDermott has paid credit to the midfielder as he sets off for pastures new.

The 26-year-old is a fantastic individual, one of the friendliest and most cheerful guys you could wish to meet, and a constant supporter of his teammates - even when he could not force his way into the starting XI.

McDermott said, "Kalifa is one of life's good guys. He is a top guy, a top professional. With a surplus of central midfielders this move is right for the club and right for Kalifa.

"Steve [Coppell] knows him well, he knows his character and I would just like to wish him well. He's been fabulous here, an absolute credit. He didn't play the amount of games he would have liked in the past few months, he struggled with injury and players came in and did well.

"So I would just really like to wish him well, and he is welcome back to visit Madejski Stadium any time. I am sure he will get a good reception."

Good Stuff McD, all the best Kalifa!!

Inconsistent, and Championship is his level.

Couldn't replace Sidwell.

As I said in UR&G, the worry is how the loss of the only other French speaker (and his best mate at the club) will affect Kebe's morale and time left here.

Now if we can just get rid of Cummings and Mooney, we'll have a pretty tight ship. Not much chnace of getting a fee for either though sadly. Another £550,000 down the drain Mr Mad!!

Selling Doyle, Kitson, Hunt etc for £££'s wasn't bad was it?
Or was it?
Can't make a profit on everyone, but people are entitled to whine, moan, bitch and complain I guess.

This shouldn't turn into a slating session, you need to give credit to him. We'll all remember his performances against Bristol City and Man Utd.

Good luck Cisse.

Decent player, but not quite good enough to fit in first choice for us.
