I'm actually slightly disappointed by that

Wonder if that means we're lining up a couple of decent loans and we won't need him, or just that he's no better than we already have?

Bit of an odd quote from McDermott (although I guess he's just trying to be polite) when he said we couldn't do anything because we had players who could play in his position already.

If that was the case a) why did we bring him in or b) didn't you realise that at 33 he wasn't a winger anymore (where I'd say we actually have less competition/quality).

Basically, as quite a few of us thought initially, he just isn't good enough! Worth a punt though I guess.

Slightly confused about who the other players are who can "play in that position".

Apart from Gylfi the only other possible would be Howard and maybe Jobi.

What was the point of bringing him here if we already had players in that position?

“He really wants it and he was great in training, but I just felt for us that we had players who could play in his position.

So why bring him in on trial? He was great in training and did very well by all accounts in the behind closed doors game, so what exactly didn't we like?

“At the right club, with the right manager and right set-up he can still do a job in the Championship. I’m sure of that. :|

What did we lose by bringing him in on trial? John Salako did more than just do a job on the wing when he was over 33. Giggs does for United. You can't just a player without actually seeing him in training and in matches.

Maybe BMc feels Jake Taylor is ready to step up..

It was worth taking a look at him yes, but it was a bit naive to think that a player that's been bombed out frequently over the last few years was going to be the answer for us....especially if we already have players in his position!

The likes of Salako and Giggs may have been similar ages, but they weren't/aren't players who've had a history of not being good enough and getting the boot from clubs at our level.

I kind of wanted to see him play for Reading just so that I knew.

Perhaps he could have been 'in' earlier and maybe could have played in League cup? Meh.

Maybe, could explain why he hasn't gone out on loan. At least he shouldn't have to play full back anymore!

Shame that he isn't the player we needed more than anything. No harm in bringing him in, would imagine they had a very close look at his fitness and decided he just wasn't up for it, as I'm sure he still has the technique for this level.

Nobody from within the club is expecting Taylor to step up just yet, he won't be rushed and will to allowed to develop. As much as people try to slate Coppell for it, I think he did a great job protecting our current crop from being over exposed too early.

The fact we let Davies go on loan too, we must have someone lined up on loan? You never now with this place though.

This makes no sense, first McDermott says he was played out of position on the wings and how he is a very good central midfielder, and now he says we don't want him because we have players in central midfield.

I think there's more to this.

Maybe Hendrie wants one last pay day and reckons he could get a better deal at Oxford.

Which is prob a fair shout.

Every chance that the limited budget is behind this.

Agreed. I'd say wage demands were too high, but that wouldn't seem right for a 33 year old who was playing some L1 football last season who has a chance to play again at this level at a decent club. But maybe it was. It certainly doesn't make sense bringing him in on trial with a view to a permanent deal when McDermott says we already have enough players that can play in that position. Odd.

Perhaps the boy Taylor has made an impression over the past couple of weeks.

After the huge amount we have spent this summer on Harte and Khiz my guess is that he was just too expensive for us.

Judging by his article about having to ring his brother for a kick about, this news may well make him top himself.

Bit surprised after they've been saying how well he's been doing. I suppose they'd hardly slag him off though would they.
