The Southbank in the 1970s was clearly obsessed with onanism.

How queer

I always enjoyed a rendition of "you're gonna get your effing heads kicked in".

Oh and from 1981 until we left EP, I ALWAYS stood to the right of the clock. 8)

Once I'd "graduated" to the South Bank (from the Tilehurst end) it was always the "right side of the Bank" for me.

Still got my Network South East £1 member card knocking about somewhere upstairs too

Really? I prefer a good rendition of "Come on Reading" being shouted/sung with some venom  as opposed to "Come on you Royals" that makes us sound like a right bunch of woofters.

Was "right side of the bank" looking from the pitch?

I am sure I was right side (that's what we sung I think) - slightly towards Tilehurst End but from the South Bank viewpoint its actually the left side

Jerry St Clair
Hugo Boss Not really a chant but got to mention one bloke on the South Bank who would shout "COME ON READING" every single game. Nothing amazing about that you might think but it was quite nasally and completely monotone plus he would do it once and once only per game. Have only heard it once in recent times and that was up at Wigan in the first Premiership season.

Most people I mention this to look at me blankly so i'm hoping someone on here will back me up.

Yep, I'll back you up there Hugo. Stood just to the right of the clock about halfway up. Had a voice like a man who smoked Capstan full strength.

YES!! Cheers for the support JSC. Knew I couldn't have been the only person who was hearing this mystery, baritone voiced person.

Who'd have known it was our very own RL though...

No , it was as looking from the South Bank.
And the right side was the right side as far I was concerned.
Left side was the wrong side.

Walk with a w@nk? How does one do that exactly :| ? I've walked to the bathroom with a hard on, but I am not sure that is really the same thing.

Although not a Reading chant,my favourite chant against Aldershot was by the Cambridge fans when big Ron was their manager

"Some say shit but we say Aldershot"

roadrunner For hairs standing on the back of my neck it has to be oxf*rd off Mark McGhee. The whole of the South Bank stood singing it as loud as possible. Fantastic. Especially 'that' game against Wolves

100% agreed.

Svlad Cjelli Nothing beats the good old "Come on you Royals" when a corner's being taken.

Again, agreed. Now, I don't mind the drummer (after all, somebody needs to get the crowd going when the football ain't the best) but he REALLY needs to be educated about corners.

Oh, and great as it was, I'm not sure I've ever met a dog called Rufus.

In line with "steeeeeeeam", I remember some lunatic bloke (think he was known as Streaky) legging it in to the back of the South Bank with his arms outsretched just as the game kicked off at Elm Park. He did this at pretty much every game circa 96-98.

Also remember him climbing up into the rafters one game to lead a few chants.
