Gylfi doesnt rule out a return to Reading

by IcelandicStokie » 09 Feb 2011 12:38

Says in a radio interview over here that Reading is a club he loves and doesnt rule out a return. Didnt say when though.

He would have been a help this season for Reading:

Presumably only when we are bigger than Arsenal and fighting for the Champions League or he is in his mid 30s and winding down his career.

Why would you expect him to say "he loves Reading and could see himself play there again in the future" in a interview on a Icelandic radiostation. I would understand if it was on a Reading based radiostation but he could easily have said "I really enjoyed my time at Reading but thats in the past. That chapter is closed. I have other and bigger things to look forward to til the rest of my career, no disrespect to my former employer."

He loved his time here and still has an interest in our results + friends here, but that time is done and his career has moved on?

I wouldn't read too much into it, most players say this about their old clubs (never burn bridges etc). Even Shorey has mentioned it a couple of time (Sidwell hasn't though, which is a shame, could do with him back.).

I believe that he would like to come back to Reading one day, after all this was his home for so long. Whether we can get to the standard required to harbour a return for him, I'm not so sure.

If we manage to sneak 6th and a playoff win then a shopping list of former reading talents would seem appropriate.

Sidwell - Decides to come back after Fulham don't offer him a new deal - Free
Shorey - Fed up with being on the bench -£500k from WBA
Sigurdsson - Frustrated by not being a started despite his talents, 6 month loan deal.

First 11 next year in the prem thus being.
Federici - Shorey, Mills, Ingimarsson, Griffin -Leigertwood - McAnuff, Sidwell, Sigurdsson, Kebe - Long

Maybe get Doyle back for the bench!

Hoffenheim are probably the second richest club in Germany, depending on how much Bayer and Volkswagen are willing to spend on their teams. If Sigurðsson leaves, it'll be because they don't need him or a side with better resources has made an offer. He's playing in most of their games at the moment. I think it might be wise to move on.

And according to their website http://www.achtzehn99.de/statistik-profis-en/ Gylfi is currently their top scorer. When he moves on from Hoffenheim, it will not be in our direction (alas).
