Play 3-5-2???

3 CBs

Harte-Zurab-Ingi

5 across the middle

Gunnar-Tabb-Elwood-Karacan-Kebe

Hunt & Long up front

Hang on a mo that's the same personnel as we c'd use in 4-4-2

Gunnar-Zurab-Ingi-Harte
Kebe-Elwood-Karacan/Tabb-HRK
Hunt-Long

Surely one of the oldest back fours in the history of the tournament

if we beat man city with that back four, even i, as arch rose tinted glasses wearer, will be forced to totally reassess the strength in depth of this squad.

Bad news about Mills. When is Pearce back? He's been out for around two months now.

Snowball Can't Brynjar play CB and RB at the same time?

Probably not, but I'm sure you could find a stat to prove that Shane could! :)

Did this ancient back four not just go 3-0 up at Ipswich?

And we don't need to BEAT Man City, just draw there, win at home

If we bring in Pearce is that going to make us FASTER at the back?

if we bring in the quick Cummings, will he have the nous/experience
to be near enough to the right place that his speed wins the day?

In my opinion Mills is our 4th best centre back anyway.

I am hoping one of the following 3, Griff, Cummings or Pearce, will be fit enough for the game Sunday. If not line-up with a 10-0-0 formation, play anti-football and hope to get a replay...and pray we don't have another back go down. :(

And yeah the "ancient" back 4 did VERY well at Portman Road...but Ipswich isn't the same quality as City. What are the chances Mancini will rest Tevez?

Hardly the end of the world if he's out. A blow, but that's it. Pearce might be back in time, we know Gunnarsson and Harte can play there. Legs would probably be ok there. We still have Khiz and Ingimarsson. Cover at full back we have Karacan and Tabb in emergencies... possibly Davies if he's still knocking about.

There are options, most of which have been tried before and proven fine. We're relying on Man City not being at top form and to do a business like job anyway.

I am expecting to see City field a VERY strong team. I doubt they can win their league so they will probably be viewing this tourny as their best chance to get some hardware this year. And with the money they have spent on players there is pressure on Mancini and the players to bring home some silverware this year.

I see the key being whether Balotelli plays well, like he has lately, or if he plays like he did early in the season which landed him on the pine for long periods of time. Balotelli is the wild card...if he is focused and on his game he will be a nightmare for our back four to handle. He is young, fast, strong and athletic. If he doesn't I think we can shut down Tevez...there is also a positive experience factor which goes along with being ancient.

But Ian does have a good point. City have been very inconsistent this year. And if this happens to be one of their down games they could still be beaten. But with Jobi, Jimmy both uncertain along with our injury decimated defense we will probably have to play even a better game than we did at Goodison, which was a magnificent effort, to get any kind of result...

But to finish up this post back OT...I am just hoping we'll see Mills back by the beginning of next month.

SUNDAYS GAME IS SANDWICHED VERY TIGHT BETWEEN TWO EUROPEAN CUP GAMES. AND THEIR PREM FORM IS THE PRIORITY- THEY ARENT GUARANTEED TO MAKE 4TH YET.

(oops caps lock!)

SO I WOULDNT SURPRISED IF ITS NOT THE FULL STRENGTH MAN CITY TEAM.

I'm more concerned about Dzeko- he's class! And if they play Adam Johnson as he'll rape our full backs

One of us needs to streak on the pitch and get rugby tackled by a City player, who should then be sent off.* Easy!

* well, I don't actually think they should, but that player in the game at Havant & Waterlooville did the other day, so.......

Exactly. They have Kiev (A), Long flight home, URZ (H), Kiev (H) & Chelsea (H) in the space of 11 days. And yeah top four in the Prem and going as far as possible in Europe would be more important to them I reckon. But then again a non-full strength team for them will still be quite daunting to our makeshift defence as they have 33,000 quality players to choose from
