to be fair you would have thought that derby fans were the team in the playoffs, fair play to them and the noise they made

Ian Herring It's also quite amusing to note that such 'braggadocio' comes forward from living pretty humdrum and unsatisfying lives that need to be bolstered by such displays of semi-articulate nonsense. (Some Reading fans are as equally guilty of the same, especially when the club is doing well.)

You do get the odd set of fans who can and do exhibit a fine sense of humour - a balance of sarcasm and wit that comes off, and this rises and falls at clubs over the years.

However it should be remembered that a fair proportion of football fans are witless and almost terminally thick. When you factor in some ingrained boorishness and typically pack behaviour it's not entirely unsurprising to see it when it's exhibited en masse.

I'm not sure Derby are any worse than others.

They do have a very strange accent in Derby though. Even people from Leicester think they sound quite backward.

Anywhere where the menfolk address one another as 'duck' has to be slightly suspect; trophies, history or penis size notwithstanding.

It's not often you read a well structured and gramatically correct post on here these days.

Bravo to you sir!

One doffs cap in humble gratitude to you for your kind statement.

moo Leave it out. They were alright when we got relegated at Pride Park to be fair.

Mmmmm. Right. I don't suppose you're old enough to remember the first away game at Pride Park when we got promoted to the second tier and them lot were relegated from the top flight?

Do the words "you're only here to see the champions" mean anything to you? And not just that, their manager was very insulting about us, something along the lines of "when you see that you're playing against Reading for the first game, you know you've just been relegated" or something like that.

They might have beaten us 3-0 that day, but that white headed twat did a lot of diving during that game.

How could I not be old enough? It was only a handful of years prior to our premiership relegation :x

Also are you not deaf? How did you hear these chants?

Plus at the time we were small fish, shows how much we have risen and derby have sunk :

I remember that bloody condescending programme note from the manager vividly - I was only about 10 at the time but that's really stuck in my mind; even at that age it was obvious they were arrogant so and sos cos I've carried a dislike for them ever since.
After the final whistle while we were walking back to the car, some guy walked past us with a smug look on his face and said "you're going straight back down mate".
I've always wanted to see him again on the offchance he'd remember. Especially the last game of the 05/06 season - would have been so sweet.

Loud but stupid really.

That sing on their own chant is just awful, particularly as they usually sang it just after we'd been singing something.

The goal celebrations were just rubbish and then at the end the same old derby always taking the piss chant just showed how utterly up their own arse they are. They obviously thought they were brilliant. They weren't.

LOL @ the pitch invasion. Pathetic attempt.

I quite enjoyed watching them. Apart from a couple of scallies in casuals asking people outside after the final whistle, most of them just looked like they wanted a party. Shame they couldn't get a proper conga started, but otherwise just looked like they were having a laugh. And they were right, we do only sing when we're winning. "2-1, and we don't need to sing"? I cringed at that.

Also, some of you might need to look up "irony" in a dictionary.

Nothing wrong with an away day party at the end of the season when your team has nothing to play for. They looked like they were having more fun than I was, put it that way. Not sure what the problem is tbh - I've been in plenty of lively away following with Reading when the home fans haven't been interested.

Fair fcks to them really.

anyone mocking derby fans for song choices needs to take a long hard look at themselves.at least they actually sing.

apart from the two twats who got on at the end, they pretty much showed what football supoporters are supposed to sound like. considering it was a nothing game for them, they were nowt short of fantastic.

yet again for us on a day with a higher than usual gate, the atmosphere is ruined by half the stadium being filled with day trippers.
we were totally outsung by a team with nothing to play for, when we were celebrating a good season, a playoff berth, and winning the game,
at no point did we sing louder than them.
we are a little bit embarrassing tbf

why are we LOLing at the derby fans?

from my view in y25 most of them just looked up for a good time. they were entertaining and sang alot, which considering how gash their team is says alot about their fans. Yes a few idiots tried to invade the pitch, but there are always a few tools in every away crowd. Was funny anyways.

Plus good for them for some of their fancy dress outfits!

Now THIS is how to wind up the home fans!

http://www.clicklancashire.com/sport/preston-north-end-fc/129414-%E2%80%9Cif-i-had-a-gun-i-would-have-shot-them-down%E2%80%9D-says-preston-manager-phil-brown-as-rival-blackpool-plane-taunts-relegation.html

“If I had a gun I would have shot them down” says Preston manager Phil Brown as rival Blackpool plane taunts relegation

Preston North End manager Phil Brown acted angrily stating “If I had a gun, I would have shot them down” after Blackpool fans sent a plane over Deedpale mocking Preston’s relegation.

Preston gave their trusty Deepdale fans something to smile about in their final game despite a dreadful season after goals from Nicholson, Hume and Proctor secured a 3 – 1 win.

The win meant North End did not finish bottom after leapfrogging Scunthorpe and Sheffield United into 22nd place.

But during the win against Watford, rival Blackpool fans sent a plane over the top of Deepdale mocking North End’s relegation to league one with a banner stating “We are superior love Blackpool FC".

Later in the match, the plane reappeared with another banner saying: “Poor little Preston enjoy League One.”

Preston North End manager Phil Brown reacted angrily, saying:

“If I had had a gun I would have shot them down.

"Arrest me now if you want. I found it very distasteful.

“Maybe I will be flying the Preston plane when it comes to the end of the season.”

yep Derby fans pretty much optimise what bores me about football fans. The same old songs from all of them. The hugely imaginative "your support is fcuking shit" and "you've never won fcuk all".
Fact is they've never won fcuk all in front of most of there current supporters, we've seen the greatest time in our club's history.
How much respect would they have given Robbie Savage if he was playing his last game wearing a Reading shirt I wonder?
You could almost hear them congratulating themselves on how intensely funny they are. "Proper" football fans who of course never sing anything positive about their own team, just abuse us. It's all they have in their sad lives, wishing misfortune on others.

I pay £375 to watch a season of football not to compete in the fukking X Factor. If I sing I sing, if I don't I don't. What I really don't is need some pious little prick telling me what I should and shouldn't do.

You only sing when you're winning has to be the thickest song in the history of the game. When do you want me to sing? When we're getting beaten 5-0 and having the sh*t kicked out of us for 90 minutes? Oh we got dicked on but I sang a few flamin' tunes. If you want a crap atmosphere go to Ipswich or Watford they are just two of many who are devoid of noise for starters.

As for daytrippers every club has them when they get a bit of success. Remember when Stoke were playing against us in League 1 and the Championship? there were swathes of empty seats, now every time I see them on tv there isn't a spare seat in the house. But it's good old Stoke isn't it working class area, working class people and really passionate about their team. Much better than our fans even though they couldn't be bothered to turn up before they joined the big boys.

So Derby fans can sing. Did they win the game? are they in the play offs? The answer to both questions is no. We are in the play offs, we should enjoy it, not worry about what other clubs think of us and if we out sang the Disney brigade.

Surely the worst song ever is the crap "This is a shithole, I want to go home" that is sung absolutely everywhere by every set of fans?

Even worse when a set of fans from a provincial town with an identikit concrete and plastic bowl sing it about the identikit concrete and plastic bowl of an opposing team from a provincial town?

What used to be brilliant about football chants was the wit and originality. You still see it in occasional flashes, but most of the time it's the same old chants, repeated again and again, and every one in the catalogue being wheeled out at one time or another, whether it fits or not!

Tiresome, crap and utterly pathetic!

Truly awful song indeed. Not sure if it's worse than the "xxxx will tear you apart, again" number though? Often the xxxx has never even played against the other side, let alone torn them apart...

moo Football fans in winding other fans up shocker.

That's the thing though. Was anyone actually wound up by it?

Does laughing at them indicate being wound up these days?

I recall an edition of The Oatcake, the Stoke fanzine, which stated a dislike for Reading based on the fact that we so regularly knew how to wind up the away supporters. That was a long time ago, mind, but it wasn't just done by singing the same tiresome nonsense every game.

Not that were were immune to that. We'd often sign "is that all you take away?" even though the away following would be greater than what we took to their place.

For inventive - and apologies if this is elsewhere, but I can't be arsed to open another session to search for it halfway through typing this - Barnsley fans had a nice tribute to Sheffield United at the weekend.

You fill up my senses
Like a weekend in Yeovil
Like a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy
As you empty your [Bramall] Lane
Like a Steel City derby
In the old third division
Oh Sheffield United
You f**ked up again
