Wimb Noel took and scored our penalty at Barnsley under Rodgers back at the start of 09/10 before he got injured, no reason to think he won't be on pen duty again if Long and Harte are out of the team.

Could well get 20+ goals if he's fully fit, but that is a big big if. if he plays 80% of the games that's asking for 37 games, so would be some achievement! I'd be more than happy with a 15 goal return.

I was thinking in terms of 50 games, 80% being 40, still a big ask
although it's possible the op really HAS fixed him and he could do it.

I like Hunt, and I said when we sold Doyle that I thought he could step up and become a leading goalscorer for us.

I think he's proven me wrong. Whilst he's still a very capable player, he isn't as good as when playing with his brother and Doyle, both of whom he had an excellent understanding with, and the injury (injuries?) has affected his pace and spring, so he isn't as good a player either.

Going forward, he's probably our most intelligent attacking player. He's the best at getting in positions where the ball is going to be, when his legs allow him. He's also been good in the hole behind Long, and has played a bigger part in moves than a player of his ability should do. That's no slight, his brain is simply better than his footballing ability, though he's still a good footballer.

I can't see him scoring 20 goals now. Very few strikers do. Maybe if he'd been our main striker in our first season down he'd have got 20, or even if he'd played the whole season and taken the penalties.

Observation, though- if he'd have scored every penalty we'd got this season, he'd have done. Maybe it's possible if he's an excellent penalty taker, but somehow I doubt that if he didn't take them ahead of mediocre takers like Doyle, SHunt and Long. I suppose Long's ego came first (who really thinks he's a better taker than Harte?), but still.

I'd be happy with 10 goals, I think he can do better than that though. 15 would be excellent.

Ah sorry Snowy, the header said Championship so was going off a 46 game prediction. If it's 20 in all comps then I think it's a bit more doable especially if he gets games against some 'softer' teams.

No Probs.

IF (massive if) we started and finished the season with Long-Hunt as the front-partnership and two of Kebe-McAnuff-HRK starting,
if there are no major injuries, and we had a tiny bit of luck early (like Graham got 4 goals in his first 2 games, 20 in his next 46+)
then anything, even 25 goals each, is possible.

But take away Long, and suddenly 15 goals looks really tough, take away two tried wingers, you're down to 12, and so on.

One thing, I DON'T believe, is that Noel is strong enough to lead the line for 46-50 games of 85 minutes or so.

But, every year one player "emerges" and IF Noel has really, really put the long-term knee issues behind him, this could be his year.

Ipswich Join The Hunt For Noel?

Ipswich Town are considering a move for Reading striker Noel Hunt, according to reports.

Hunt played a key role in helping Brian McDermott's side to secure a playoff place this season, enjoying a successful strike partnership with fellow Republic of Ireland international Shane Long. Despite injury problems, Hunt netted 10 league goals in 22 starts and 14 substitute appearances this season, but the 27-year-old could well be sold this summer with just one year left on his contract with the Royals. Ipswich are said to have made an enquiry for Hunt, whose brother Stephen plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, though the Blues look likely to face competition from Championship rivals Portsmouth.

Town boss Paul Jewell has already managed to tempt defender Ivar Ingimarsson from the Madejski Stadium this summer and could well look to the Royals again as he continues his search for additions to his strikeforce. Sheffield United striker Ched Evans continues to be linked with a switch to Portman Road, though the Blues have missed out on Nathan Tyson. The former Nottingham Forest frontman, who was linked with Town last month, has now joined Derby County.

Would love Shane Long, but he's way out of our class.

Speculating Hunt could score 20 goals if fit for 80% of a season, is like deliberating Joseph Fristzel would be a successful interior designer if he was indifferent to daughter dungeons.

Half the goals Hunt has scored have rendered him unconscious. Love the guy, but he can’t take a piss without fracturing his tibia.

What a load of toss! We won't sell to league rivals (unless we want to). And Ingi "tempted" from the Mad Stad? We didn't offer him a fricking contract!!!! "Forced" would be a better phrase.....surprised he managed to stay in this division.

20 goals from Hunt no chance, he's not Cureton, Butler nor Long!!

12 - 16 if he stays fit will be his contribution over the next season.

By "If he stays fit", do you mean plays?

2010-11 2,218 Minutes of 4,710 minutes (45% of minutes) = 10 Goals
2008-09 2,204 Minutes

4,422 Minutes played 23 Goals (Noel, 2 Seasons) (Projects to 24 goals in 4,582 minutes)
4,582 Minutes played 25 Goals (Shane, this season)

If Noel Hunt gets the same minutes on the pitch as Long did this season
with a decent partner (as Long had) there is no logic at all to say he
won't get c 20 goals.

Personally, I believe he will get 18-22 IF PLAYING WITH SHANE FOR A WHOLE SEASON. *

I have always said he was a class act (better than Doyle in goals per minute) but he has had
a season carrying a knee injury (60-65 minute games), a season injured, an operation, and
then not much more than half a season, first recovering and then bedding in.

* It's pointless speculating on Hunt because he's a classic strike-PARTNER, the grab half of smash and grab.
If Shane announced he was staying that would lift the spirits at the club big-time. Start with a couple of
good wins and we could be looking at another 2005-06... but Shane goes, 1-2 others go, then who knows?

So going into 2005-06 how many of the team were true stars?

This squad, if it started with two wins, with the confidence that gives, could win this league. Of that I have no doubt.

I don't think it will happen, because I don't think we'll hold the squad together, but.

Long-Hunt 2011-12, IMO would be better than Doyle-Hunt

Once Snowball's decided that someone has disagreed with them (whether they actually have or not), the stats bulldozer is put into gear and sweeps remorselessly over everything in its path.

If you mean that we lost our first in 2005-06, how is that relevant?

I am saying that, for this side, confidence is key, and this side, if it started well, could be very good indeed.
