He's taken the club as far as he can and we should all be grateful for that but at the end of the day he is not a football person and only bought the club as in his words he "owed the town something"

As a business man rather than a football person he is likely to be asking a hefty premium above what the club is worth so unfortunately we are stuck with the status quo UFN.

His view (quoted somewhere this summer) is that the side is good enough even if weakened as we made the playoff final. That is flawed thinking - the league was extremely weak last season and looks much tougher this term and if there is no investment in the team we will be in the bottom 6 in my view.

The cost of petrol from where I am, the hassle getting to the ground, and the complete lack of ambition that the board are showing now (reminicent of the waller days in the 70's) will stop me travelling to many games - I can travel 10 mins and watch Crawley Town for £15 - a side that is showing far more ambition than RFC.

Running us into the ground that's what he's doing.

Fine, if you want to support a team based on money being spent then Reading's not the team for you.

It would be much cheaper for me to go watch Winchester FC, as it is, I'm a Reading fan, and I'm going to keep supporting them, especially as they're doing doing the right thing by trying to keep the club financially viable.

^^greed.

A home game costs me £60 just for ticket and fuel. Even if it cost £100, I would never consider the 30 minute walk to the King Power stadium as an alternative.

not having a go, but what kind of fan picks Reading as his club, but still requires success and ambition?
surely most of us started watching when we were shit, and had no real possibility of having much success, or getting to the prem.
it makes no sense to me that all of a sudden this is what you require from your club....... are you just falling out of love with football itself?

rfc2001 I don't like Madejski now as he's taken the club as far as he can!!; but I'm pretty sure he saved the club from administration and ensured we stayed in business when he bought the club 1991!! We would have never got into the premier league without him!!!

But he does need to go now!!!

ROGER SMEE saved this club matey and dont anyone forget it.But your right ,he must go.

You obviously missed the thread in May when Archie's Penalty told everyone that he was going to register Karacan's Upright.

I miss him too - he really was unique. In fact, can we turn this thread in to a debate about how dense 1teaminberks was?

(Far more interesting than going over this old ground again - sorry OP)

I've yet to see a decent wind up in this thread.

Never mind, I suppose it's back to multiple threads about Shane Long.

I feel uncool now for mostly posting on the team board and not being one of the clique.

Someone says that every season.

For the amount it costs me to see 10 games a season (~£700), I could get a Cambridge Utd season ticket, get better beer and still have a good £250 quid left. But then I support Reading because they're my team. Not because of how they do, or how much money they spend.

Tbh, JM's views on football hold very little credence. He has however surrounded himself with 'yes men' like Nigel Howe and Nick(y) Hammond who tell him what he wants to hear.

The worry is that people such as yourself will get bored with travelling to watch an increasingly mediocre club lacking in ambition, crowds will dip and we'll be the next Preston North End - a nice ground in the third-tier after a few seasons of being the Championship's nearly men.

Please don't do that. Go to Brighton, Palace anywhere but there. Don't feed their unsustainable rotten club.
