BR2
gazzer, loyal royal found out yesterday that West Brom made a £3m bid for Long. Lets just say it was laughed out of the club

Why?
That's the sort of amount Graham went for and I and others think that Graham is a better all-round player so £3million might well be about right for a Championship striker with Mikhail-Smith also going for a similar amount and Carlton Cole was supposedly going for £4 million.
Whether RFC think he is worth more than that is another matter.

Could it be because we have no desperate need for the money so we don't have to sell at that price?

In other words, we aren't Watford.

...a penny for each of BMs thoughts right now ...he's playing the politically correct "straight bat" so as not to upset his paymaster, but hes now expected to perform bigger miracles with, on paper, a weaker squad ....

Considering I am yet to see him make a post not based on Football Rumours I think we're ok

I think it is disgraceful that we are not going to replace Long.
Even though you could regard him as irreplaceble. We need another striker.

Ian Royal He's only ever played well and successfully for more than the odd game or from the bench for about 4 months of his 5 years with us and those were two periods over two separate seasons with a load of poor performances in between them.

He's completely inconsistent. He doesn't offer much other than effort when he isn't scoring...

Never worth more than a £1m. But I'd happily emphasise his strengths and deny his weaknesses in a negotiation if I thought I could take some mug for more.

Thought this was worth a bump. Made me laugh.

Well done Ian - showing your encyclopedic football knowledge off again!

How things change in a year. Let’s not write off Hunt, Church, Manset or Robson-Kanu before the season even starts or we might regret it this time next year.

The club do not want him to go to another Championship Club.
He does not want to go to a Championship club.
West Brom are the only club to have made a firm offer, which as stated above, was a paltry £3m.
Club are holding out for £10m.

Not great or new facts, but facts all the same. Good source.

Arnie, the problem is that the club won't turn down West Ham if they bid high enough because, as Hammond has clearly said on numerous occasions, every player has their price.

At the same time Long has hinted that he wouldn't rule out a move to West Ham and you have to assume that if they offer him a big enough pay rise he'll go there if there's nothing better on offer.

I think tinrib should be taking a bow at this point. His comments regarding Long were nailed on.

Personally I think Long's been quality this season, although £3million is a big fee and every player has his price.
