Pearce & Bongani

by CayeneMatt » 06 Aug 2011 17:59

Blimey, they need some time together. I sit close to the dugout and Gibbo spent the entire first half shouting at Bongani about his positioing, or shouing at Pearce to tell him to tell Bongani to sort out his positioning.

They were at fault for both goals IMO - not Feds.

An up and under landing 4 yards out is the keeper's ball.

The main difference between the two teams was the ability to defend the long balls. Millwall did it effectively whereas Reading were found wanting countless times.

They will get better with time. It takes more than a few friendlies to strike up an understanding between a central defence partnership.

Agreed. Millwall's no.5 Paul Robinson won everything in the air that came anywhere near him.

Early days for this partnership, but I think they will good if they get the games together.

Back four were terrible today, will need a vast improvement if we are to go anywhere this season.

Bongani was continually venturing into midfield to try and track the man or to win the ball in the first half, and constantly got himself too close to the forward when trying to win a header.

Bongani needs to beef up. He won some headers, but only some.

Both had a dire game, whereas at the other end Long and Hunt were in the centre half's pockets.

Ours both looked scared with Pearce rediscovering his inability to kick a ball and have it caught under his feet. Bongani, not much better.

2nd: Tip it over the bar, safe. Catch it, safe. Palm it out and away, safe ish. Leave it (in this case), safe. Try and catch it and end up tipping it nicely towards the edge of the six yard box, goal.

Why the focus on the centre backs? Griffin was out of position for the 2nd goal and Federici's positioning was appauling. McCarthy would have sorted that back line out but unf we've decided on making a shocking decision by letting him go out on loan

Every opposing teams tactics will involve shunting the ball down the lines and their wingers out run Griff/Harte, the centre backs cover leaving a gaping hole in the middle

And repeat

When's Cummings back?!

It doesn't matter. Harte and Griffin will still be first choice.

I thought Federici had an excellent game. Bongani was poor but was the best of our back four.
