by M-U-R-T-Y » 25 Aug 2011 12:02

A favour to ask... Would any of you stattos out there be able to tell me what our biggest ever away attendance is of a) all-time and b) in the last ten years?

Last 10 years would probably be at Highbury, not sure about all time.

Neutral ground, doesn't really count as away game for me personally, even though technically it is.

Yeah, but I don't know a more helpful answer. Sorry.

Cup - Highbury, circa 7,000

League - I would say Bristol City away 1995, circa 5,000

I'd go Highbury. Wasn't it around 6000 we took?

Schards#2 League - I would say Bristol City away 1995, circa 5,000

Still one of my favourite ever away trips - c. 5,000 away fans in a crowd of around 9,500 IIRC.

* sits back and waits for the moans about how Man City in the FA Cup last year could have been the biggest but for the "ticketing fiasco"*

Still remember the City fans ripping up there season tickets in protest at going down. Very brave as it was the last home game of the season!

what about AFCB away in 1994. Last game of the season (and we'd already won the league), moved to a Thursday night due to Dorset's finest still being a little twitchy about policing "high profile" end of season games after Leeds re-decorated the town 3-4 years before.

Not sure exactly how many went, but it must have been 3/4/5,000. AFCB also managed to p*** off their own, who stood on the long thin terrace to the right of the Brighton Beach Terrace (as it was) as they got shunted elsewhere to accomodate the travelling contingent. Not happy bunnies despite their gate receipts being vastly increased.

Supposed to be a promotion party, real damp squib, lost 1-2 and it threw it down all evening, so those of us on the BBT got absolutely drenched.

didn't some royals fan hop on the pitch and scored when Gilkes(!?!?) was about to legitimately score?

Everyone thought it had gone in, but in fact the keeper saved it, but the pitch got invaded regardless. The ref restarted with a goal kick even though it should have been a corner.

The lads had been out on the lash for days and somebody had a black eye from those celebrations (Mick Gooding?).
A real let-down as a celebration and pissed off that our season ended before everybody else.

Indeed. Hearing our fans lamely singing "we've already won the League" after we went 2-1 down wasn't really the way I wanted to celebrate.

The 'goalscorer' then disappeared off behind the goal to escape old bill and stewards, kicked a local television sound boom up in the air, scaled the fence back into the away end and - as far as I know - escaped getting nicked :| . This, of course, being the days when we had a fair few 'characters' following RFC rather than the generic 'URZ 13' shirt-wearing, face-painted, blarmy chanting clones who attend matches these days  .
