Thats exactly what we DON'T need though.......we need someone in the mould of Long and Doyle, who will run channels and close down the defence

i think mcdermott will get him to play like that if u see all our strikers doing that atm then i dnt see why mcdermott wouldnt do it with le fondre

I agree, unless we alter our style. The wingers need to do more and support the two strikers.

The other club is Coventry apparently.

I disagree... we need someone to hang around the bloody box and score. I would get goals with that midfield behind me, crossing it and pulling it back and Noel flicking it on...

Despite Shane's prowess at times last year, I have felt for a while that we often were on top and being creative without scoring, since the dying embers of Coppell's reign when Doyle's strikes dried up. If ALF is lazy and lethal I would be delighted.

The other club is not coventry according to the BBC Sheffield guy, but as its an unnamed club thats not bid I suspect its a ploy to fool Madejski and Hammond. Good luck with that one methinks.

The bloke apparantly is a bit of a poacher with an excellent goal scoring record. Usually this type of player spends much of the game working out how to lose his marker(s). Why would you want to convert him into concentrating on the donkey work?

Gorkss, Mills Jr and this guy in the space of the week would be top work IMO.

Won't all gel at once, but good signings.

Personally I would of preferred Sam Baldock, but his transfer fee has rocketed over the last couple of weeks with his Hat trick at the weekend and his performance away at Norwich.

Adam Le Fondre will have the same problems as Manset when he first joined, his fitness levels won't be where they need to be, hopefully if he does sign we can get him sharp and match fit ASAP!

Sorry chap but that is complete bollocks. Have you ever played? He's a pro. He doesn't have to think about shit like that, he wouldn't have time. He has a style that works for him, he finds space, he uses it. You don't work out how a defender is playing, you let him worry about how you are playing.

A good typical Reading signing if it comes off, i'd be interested to see him play if all i've heard is true.

Brian McDermott has renewed his interest in Rotherham United’s £350,000 striker Adam Le Fondre after revealing Reading could sign another player before the transfer window shuts.

Royals’ boss said last week that he was not after a forward and insisted the 24-year-old was not a target.

But his intentions appear to have changed after hinting that more funds could be made available by the board, despite the midweek signings of centre-back Kaspars Gorkss from QPR for £900,000 and left-back Joseph Mills from Southampton on a free transfer.

Le Fondre scored 24 goals in 49 games last season and has already netted four in five this campaign.

But Rotherham are open to selling him as he has not agreed a new deal and will be out of contract next summer.

A source told getreading that Royals initially enquired about Le Fondre last December.

And McDermott said: “We know him, but he doesn’t play for us, he plays for Rotherham.

“He has scored a lot of goals, I’ve looked at the stats.

“I got back from West Ham versus Aldershot and looked at about five or six different strikers. I do that anyway. There will possibly be another signing if we can.

“It would always depend on the financial situation and if we had a situation where funds were available then we would have an interest (in a striker) if we could find the right person.

“It would depend on the deal, but it’s something we would consider.”

Reading’s Championship rivals Coventry City are also in the hunt and getreading understands that Le Fondre would be after big money to move south.

Sheffield Wednesday are another option for him.

Rotherham are looking to spark a bidding war for Le Fondre, nicknamed Alf, as Rochdale are entitled to 25-per-cent of any fee as part of the sell-on clause put in place when he moved between the clubs in 2009.

Le Fondre said: “I have great confidence in my ability to score goals at any level I play at.

“Whilst I have a year left on my current deal, the club absolutely understand my feelings on the matter.

“I have made clear I want to prove myself at a higher level and I am in no doubt Rotherham will respect my wishes should a suitable bid come in

I was not really in favour of this but you have to say looking at his stats that they are impressive - be it at a lower level.

I thought he would cost a lot more than 350K - but of we can get him at that price (plus add ons only if he is successful) it would be worth the risk.

Their forum claims we've offered £350k now and £150k in add ons. But they want the lot up front. (fans)

Would be a great signing, let's hope we can get him... only worry is a lot would ride on Hunt, as Manset + Le Fondre partnership is very 'League Two'

^Agreed it does a tad but Kits, Doyle and Lita werent viewed as a prem strike force when they signed were they

Definately our type of signing and he knows where the goal is.

As others have said reminds me of Cureton. If it comes off then i'd be happy with Noel, Manset, HRK and ALF as our striking options. I see Churchy taking a backward step and going out on loan once more should it happen. I'd like the lad to do well here but he fits the same mould as ALF - minus the scoring part.

Probably looking way too much into it anyway considering other clubs are involved

We create so many chances. He is a Cureton type player, natural finisher!
Exactly the type of player this team needs!!

I say £350'000 upfront, £150'000 add on's and we send Brett Williams there on a season long loan, which suits all parties.

Would be happy with that, but he isn't fit yet, still getting over an injury.

Seems a pretty good reason to send him out on loan to me!
