melonhead since sarcasm is usually saying the opposite of what you mean, with some vocal inflection that signals the sarcasm to the hearer, its easy to understand why it is difficult to pick up on it in plain text.

Perhaps thay should add in a picture of father Jessop - the most sarcastic priest in Ireland just to assist with the intention of the post.

Wycombe Royal One thing I can say for certain is that we won't get 82.33 points.

So, unlike Snowball, you have no objection to a goal difference of 21.33? Or is that 1.75 things you can say for certain

Can I add that last season you said GD was worth an extra point, well this shows that was bollox, it was obviously 11 less points!!!!

Just looking at the GD...

West Ham +16 (game in hand)
Southampton +22
Reading +12
Cardiff +14
Blackpool +14
Birmingham +20 (game in hand)

So we have the worst GD of the top 6 (though not by much). I reckon Southampton and Birmingham will be the main challengers for 2nd, so effectively they have "half a point" more than us at this stage. Could be crucial come April.

Despite the wink, the point last season was that our GD after 31 games suggested we should be higher
and WOULD BE higher by the end of the season. And we were higher after 46...

1 30 16 57 West Ham
2 31 22 56 Southampton
3 31 12 54 Reading
4 31 14 53 Cardiff
5 31 14 52 Blackpool
6 30 20 51 Birmingham

The top six at this moment are the top six GDs too, but these may be slightly false numbers

West Ham have been solid as a rock but had two bad defeats eg. 5-1 by Ipswich.
Birmingham have had two biggies eg. their 6-0 win against 9 man Millwall.
reading's figures are skewed by their terrible start

Since September 17th it's:

1 19 Birmingham
2 15 Southampton
2 15 Reading
4 11 Cardiff
4 11 Blackpool
6 10 Burnley
7 08 West Ham
7 08 Hull

Interesting for me is this (Birmingham)

31.01.2012 4-1 Leeds
21.01.2012 3-0 Watford
14.01.2012 6-0 Millwall
11.01.2012 2-1 Ipswich

15-2 in January but before that and after that plenty of nils and ones

You could be right but GD is very much in our hands with games against West Ham, Saints, Blackpool and Birmingham.

Also Blackpool, as well as coming to the Mad have seven home games against rivals.
So unless they blow they are likely to improve their GD

Win all the remaining games 1-0 and we won't have to worry about goal difference.

2/1 for promotion now

12/1 to be champs (much better value than evens for West Ham)

and spreads now expecting us to get 76-77 points (still low IMO

We are currently on 54 points with 15 games to go

we have manged 50 points in our last 25 games, @ exactly 2 ppg

84 Points = 30 more points = 2.00 points per game or W10 L5

In our most recent 15 games we accrued 33 Points, winning 11 games

If we match our previous 15 games for the next 15 games
(and we are still IMPROVING)

we would end on 87 Points with a GD of 23

Previous 15

H 1-2 Cardiff
A 3-2 Ipswich
H 3-2 Peterborough
A 0-1 Blackpool
H 3-0 West Ham
A 1-0 Leeds
H 3-0 Brighton
H 1-0 Ipswich
A 1-3 Cardiff
A 2-1 Watford
H 0-1 Hull
H 1-0 Bristol
H 2-0 Coventry
A 1-0 Derby
H 1-0 Burnley

W11 L4 23-12 33 points from 15 games

In re GD: Also have suffered defeat more than any of the other current top six (and that would attain even if WHU and Brum were to lose their respective games in hand), plus Boro in 8th with one fewer game played, six losses and eleven matches drawn, and a GD of +4

GD is of course well worth monitoring from here to the finish, but with one third of the campaign unfinished, the table's still well capable of telling a few fibs that will be corrected as we go

Unrelated but significant: with three February fixtures rearranged on account of weather and conflicts with opposition cup commitments, Hull City have a brutal March laid out before them (which is not to suggest that they're anything less than fully fit professionals who in all likelihood would be training on the days anyway, but actual competition does pose a wholly different order of demands, and I don't envy them their task in any case)
