Been talking about the deal for weeks
Needed to judge the relationship with the new owner (note the tense  )
Never spoke to Wolves - club said they were already in contract talks

from Reading player
(roughly)
"I met Anton on Sunday and we spoke again on Monday and there was one thing he said to me, that will remain between me and him, that made a huge difference to me."

The next question was about 'the Reading way' and then McDermott said that that had been successful but with the new owner we want to be in another division.

Reading between the lines I would guess what was said was about AZ's ambition to be in the Premier League and potentially what he could do investment wise to get us there? Just a guess.

Or...that ANY player bought or sold would be agreed by Brian? If I were manager, I would like the final say on who was brought in or exited the club. Quite an important point, one would think...regardless of who operated the purse strings above you.

I suppose it's only natural that he'd have some questions about AZ's vision for the club. Must be a bit disconcerting when you've had two seasons of being pretty much untouchable. If McDermott ever leaves football management, there's a career in politics waiting for him. Hasn't really put a foot wrong since he's been manager and everything he says pleases the fans, the media, the board. Pretty much everyone.

Without reading pages and pages of drivel

Did he or did he not talk with Wolves? Made no mention in his press conference.

So why the eerie silence over the last few days?
So why did he not go up the road last night and watch Saturdays opponents?

"You see John.......this square thing with a net in it is a goal....are you still with me....right....the idea is one of our men...the ones in the blue hooped shirts, have to try and kick the round leather thing in to it more times than the other team....who wear another colour by the way...kick it in to our goal where Adam is normally standing and trying to stop them. Get it?"

He obviously talked to wolves, hence the speculation, and hence the official news today. We probably made it clear we would make a counter offerand probably he was allowed to talk to keep him sweet. Whether he would have gone or was just benchmarking who knows. But certainly wolves, reading and McDermott won't admit he talked to them and turned it down..

Personally I think we should care, simply because, if he did go and talk his head had been turned.

Personally I am slightly uneasy about the whole situation. Delighted he is staying of course, but if it so good here, why all this shite over the last few days. As my old dear used to say "No smoke without fire you know"

Be interesting to see how we get on ooop north this weekend.

If rumours are to be believed it was that Anton would seriously reconsider purchasing the club if McDermott wasn't manager.
