RoyalBlue Plastic outed!

Just how could any true loyal Royal not know when Reading FC were founded?

Reading FC don't know when Reading FC were founded either, other than "during the 1871/2 season". 1871 is just a best guess.

As for the Morton friendly (ignoring the detail that there's virtually no chance of it happening) would Reading fans be allowed on "the southbank" for old times' sake?

Sounds like a great idea to me. In the post-modern era of football love (thanks Fabrice) then I'd suggest that if Greenock or Morton or Greenock Morton, The Morts, whatever they like to be called...are contacted that a 'group' of Reading fans would love to visit their ground during a pre-season friendly, I'm sure they'd lap it up. Any money in the Scottish Football Coffers would be very welcome I'd imagine, and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. I'm sure they'd love it...as long as we behave.

I felt that the immediate area around Goodison Park (not the ground itself obviously!) was pretty similar to the tight terraced streets around Elm Park.

The English ground that I felt resembled EP more than any other was Saltergate. The main difference was that the home end was covered. Does anyone else remember Simon Inglis write in the 1980s that Elm Park was, aesthetically, the least interesting ground in the country? Since the Taylor Report, and the number of new grounds and stands that have been built, there is not much difference in design these days. The quirks and peculiarities have long gone. I remember wooden terracing at places like Gresty Road and Layer Road. Entering the away ends at Kenilworth Rd and Filbert Street by passing through houses! Springfield Park had a big grass bank with a pointless cover right at the back of the terrace.

Much that I loved EP, architecturally, it really had very little to get excited about.

Loving the Greenock Morton pics & links - although just seen their average home gate is under 2000. Not gonna be a gr8 atmosphere on those terraces but I'll still look them up when I'm next in that part of the world.

To be honest, I don't think the prospect or 30-40 Reading fans turning up for a friendly would have them overwhelmed with excitement.

If we get a mention in the programme I'll consider it an honour.

I received the following email just now:

Hi there,

I am chairman of Greenock Morton supporters trust and would be very happy to support any move to either get the clubs to arrange a pre season friendly or have some form of reciprocal fans visit. In fact I am having dinner with our board next Thursday 29 March so I would be delighted to raise the issue. We already do reciprocal visits from a group of fans in Bergamo in Italy who support Atalanta (don’t ask – no idea why!) and with West Brom fans through the connection with a number of our players who transferred and were very successful there. I should say that we are fondly thought of by Palace fans for the same reasons with a number of their “legends” having been sourced from us.

Reading are, of course, one of our English favourite clubs simply because we support anything in blue and white hoops.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

Would have been Leyton Orient till they developed the south end. Funnily enough drove past it last night.

Another similarity. Morton were founded in 1874, only seven years before RFC.
