I was a season ticket holder from 1995 in the South Bank and then East Stand, but emigrated to the US in 2003 and only saw the Ipswich game this season when I was briefly back in Reading so only hear the latest chants when seeing video clips. The "McDermott, he used to manage Slough, he is a Royal now" song is pretty special. I can't quite put my finger on it - partly it's because it's a unique song about our manager (which we never had in the successful days of McGhee, Pardew or Coppell - only the standard "magic hat" songs), and partly because "he is a Royal now" emphasises he's our manager. Fair play to whoever invented it, and hopefully it will be booming loud and clear on Tuesday as we continue this incredible run.

Not actually a big fan of that song if i'm honest. Got no problem with people singing it, just don't like the way the lines don't end in hard syllables

Much more satisfying to sing "magic hat..having that" than "slough...now"

Also don't really like "e-i-e-i-e-i-o" coz the last line is clumsy.

On the other hand, the "the royals are going up" song works well and sounds great

McDermott, woh ho,
Brian McDermott, woh ho ho ho.
He used to manage Slough,
but he's a Royal now.

''Slough'' and ''now'' are 'hard enough for me.

So, tomorrow i am meant to clap my Reading FC clap banner, wave my scarf over my head and sing songs all at the same time? Better lay off the sauce tomorrow evening because this could get messy.

We defo need a better song for alfie. Im not very inventive so will wait until i hear one i wish to join in with.

As it's Forest, how about using this famous old tune...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w7ALMIUy74

McAnuff, McAnuff flying down the wing
McAnuff, McAnuff all the fans do sing
Feared by Forest when he does his stuff
McAnuff, McAnuff, McAnuff

I like it because of the implied rivalry with Slough Town. Nothing better than singing about how the opposition resemble Aldershot at Old Trafford. Its about saying that, "Its just little old Reading, with an ex-Slough manager, bitter foes of Aldershot...and you are losing"

The Royals are going up...

EI EI EI-O

We shall not be moved.

All simple and bring back great memories of other Promotion run-in's over the years.

And all three are very loud as well.

Some of our chants, like Molly Malone are woefully quiet. Shame really, I like that one.
