Coventry will be no push over, they have a pretty decent young team and with the pressure off I think they will do OK against the Saints. Soton also seem to be bricking it.

Hull however have proven to be a difficult team to beat away from home, even if they have tailed off recently. I can see them drawing at West Ham and lots of motivational booing from the home fans.

Rusty royal My prediction
Coventry 1 : 0 Saints
Wet sham 1 : 0 Hull

Saints promoted on goal difference

Wet sham to loose to Blackpool in the playoffs :D

West Ham are 2 points behind, so a win for them and a loss for Saints see's West Ham go up!

But then West Ham would be promoted :?:

Yep, if West Ham win by 3 goals, and Saints only get a 0-0 draw, West Ham go up on goals scored.

Most "interesting" scoreline would be West Ham to win 3-0, with Saints drawing 1-1 (Or any other variation of West Ham winning by 3 and Saints scoring 2 fewer than them in a draw)

That would be a Saints promotion as they got 4 points against the Hammers - but it would be fun to see them get so close but lose out :D

After how the last few games have gone, Saints are looking like the biggest chokers.

Really don't want West Ham to be promoted though :(

Opps :D I've put that right! Looked at goal difference before looking at points (and I always tell my maths group to read the question thoroughly  )

Saints to be promoted though, the Teacher that I assist is a Saints fan

And Saints are at home, but apart from that it was a bang on prediction.

Personally I really cannot see anything other than a Saints home win versus a limited, disinterested, relegated Coventry side.

Saints 3 (Lambert 2, Fox 1) Cov 0
West Ham 2 (Cole, Vaz Te) Hull 0

Blackpool up in the playoffs

If Southampton draw 1-1 with Coventry and West Ham beat Hull 3-0 (plausible results) both teams have a goal difference of 82-47.

I assume it then goes down to the head to head record which means Southampton go up as they had a win and a draw against West Ham.

Talk about tight!

In the Premier League: 1. Goal difference, 2. Goals scored, 3. Playoff at neutral venue (if for title, relegation or Euro qualification, otherwise: teams share position) - I can't see that it can be different for championship?

Wrong. Football league regulation 9.2

9.2 If two or more Clubs have the same number of points, goal difference and goals scored the highest placed Club shall be determined by the respective League records against each other, taking into account in order of precedence, points gained, goal difference and goals scored. If the above procedures do not separate the Clubs, then the Clubs concerned shall play off a deciding League Match or Matches under arrangements approved by the Board on a neutral ground.

Nope, head to head record before play-off

It's a different competition run by a completely different entity.

About as relevant as comparing skipping to butter being scraped off an overdue library book.

Can't really see Saint's failing to score. Can't really see Coventry scoring more than 1. Hull have a mean defence and I can't see West Ham getting 3 or more.

1-1 Saints
2-0 West Ham

Southamption promoted.

I hope Saints go up, and Wet Sham lose in the play off final to Blackpool.
