As an aside, you've got to feel for Karl Sheppard. He may never kick a ball in anger for us. He's way, way down the pecking order now, Shirley?

Pog > Roberts > Church*

Apologies, I was under the impression that no longer a rumour implied it's a done deal.

Pogrebnyak reveals reason behind Fulham snub
Jun 29 2012 By Yann Tear

PAVEL Pogrebnyak would love to have stayed at Fulham, but the club were unwilling to match the sky-high wages offered by Premier League newcomers Reading, according to his agent.

The 28-year-old Russian, who underwent a medical at the Madejski Stadium this week, made a great impact on his arrival at Craven Cottage, scoring six goals in 12 appearances, including a hat-trick against Wolves.

Having arrived on loan from Bundesliga side Stuttgart in January, he was seen as the perfect replacement for Bobby Zamora, who left permanently for QPR in the same transfer window.

Fulham boss Martin Jol did acknowledge the terms of his deal with Fulham represented a gamble that ‘the Pog’, as he quickly became known to Whites fans, might be lured away by another club – and now he has.

"There are maybe a number of reasons why we have decided to move to Reading, but in the end, the difference in wages was too great and we could not ignore it," Hamburg-based agent Dr Oliver Wendt told the Chronicle.

"We did go back to Fulham, but they were not prepared to improve their offer.

"He was happy at Fulham and had a really great time there. Maybe he could have signed a new deal, but we have to consider the amount being offered at Reading."

Dr Wendt, whose clients also include Andrei Arshavin and Roman Pavlyuchenko – two other Russians who have played in England – added: "The intention was always just to play regularly again, to ensure he was picked for the Euros, as he was not starting enough games in Stuttgart.

"It worked out well for him. He and his family have enjoyed life in England."

Surely the Fulham Chronicle is full of bullsh/t. I can't imagine we are going to offer that much more in wages.

The agent said there were a number of reasons. The fact that he was interested in going back to Fulham and trying to make them match Reading's offer is simply his job and its in his interests to play the two clubs against one another and see which one comes out on top. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference if there were other reasons Pog joined us or what they are.

Actually I think Karl Sheppard will see out next season with Reading. He is only just 21, so will not need to be included in our 25 man squad. Manset, Bignall and Williams will surely leave as won't get a sniff, and Church may well feel/be told that to realise his potential he shouldn't be 5th choice in the premierleague. So I can perversely see Sheppard getting nearer to the team with the addition of the Pog! Might well be loaned out for 3 months or get a shout in the cup.

I think this is surely the agent advertising how great he is! If he can get Pogrebnyak "65,000 a week" at Reading then what might he do for others! Sign up now!

The facts may well be that Anton promised to not kidnap his family/make Russian the teams first language/Fulham are cloth cutting.... who knows!

Until I see Pog with pen in hand with SJM's eyes boggling over the contract, this is just a typical market trader ploy from the agent.

'last few days of the auction, don't care where he plays, highest bidder wins, come and get him'

Pog might fit perfectly into 'The Reading Way' but not so sure about the agent.

Can you imagine Nicky Hammond going about his business like this? :?
