Jason Roberts...Do you sometimes find him annoying?!

Not everyone is going to like the extra media attention Roberts brings us, particularly when the going gets tough as it inevitably will in the Premiership.

I was a little concerned about all his meida commitments when he joined us but I don't think they affected his perfomance which I guess is the most important consideration.

Roberts is a professional both on and off the field, and this includes the way he conducts himself in the media. My only concern would be that the limelight may give him an 'I'm bigger than this club' mentality, however I'd be surprised if this was the case given that he comes across as a firmly grounded individual.

Will be interesting to see if peoples opinions of his media antics change should be ever hit a baron spell in front of goal though.

Secondly, if Roberts enjoys working in the media why shouldn't he do it? He doesn't have many years left of his playing career left so if he wants a job in media when he retires he may as well have something set up before he goes.

The only thing that annoyed me about JR since he joined the Royals is his outspokenness regarding John Terry/Anton Ferdinand saga.

First of all - What's it got to do with him?
Secondly - would he be so outspoken if the boot was on the other foot and it was Anton calling Terry 'a white kant'?

Sometimes things are best left unsaid until the verdict.

Other than that - I can see why he keeps quite a high media presence, why wouldn't he? His career won't last that much longer so I'm sure he's got a few irons in the fire when it comes to media jobs after he retires.

There are many on this board that would be classed as more annoying. But I see what you mean.

I think being a reading fan is going to feel a bit different with big name signings, new owners and exotic owners wifes. Roberts is the ego that many craved when we we're signing the likes of emerge Faye though remember.

I think we are still waiting for Fae to emerge.

I actually think the opposite. Having an articulate player whose opinion is widely valued due to his experience and the fact that it consists of more than mere platitudes is something we've not really had before.

I used to enjoy hearing Kitsons views but I think, towards the end, people used to give him long interview space because they know he'd put his foot in it. And he did.

Everything I've heard from Roberts has sounded genuine and he seems to appreciate being given the opportunity to show what he can do at a high level one last time. And after seeing his header against Southampton again last night he can say whatever he likes.

Anyway surely the point of the question is his relationship with Reading FC? Like, sure he's an articulate media personality and top pro - good luck to him. But he, no doubt encouraged by some of us, does tend to overdo the happy to help, like he's done us a favour winning promotion for us. His contribution was undoubtedly "talismanic" at a crucial point in last season, but I do think he & we inflate the importance of his playing contribution in our heads. IMHO natch.
