winchester_royal Have to laugh at all the Watford fans saying he should stay as they'll be in the PL next season. Money doesn't buy you success in that league chaps, especially given the number of clubs who now have it down there.

Too true. If you based the league last season on the wealth / cash value of the Chairman/ owner we'd have been in the lower half not at the very top.

You mean we'd have been roughly where we were in mid-table before our new Billionaire family came and pumped a bit more cash into the club?

I don't disagree with the idea that throwing money at it doesn't bring success, you only have to look at Leicester to see proof of that, but to suggest we didn't have good financial backing for at least the second half of the season is a little far fetched.

Our new 'billionaire' family that still isn't worth as much (if the data we have seen is to be believed) as most of the other owners in the Championship. Also, I didn't say that we didn't have 'good financial backing'. I said that our owner was not as wealthy as many others whose clubs finished below us. Do take the trouble to read the words rather than invent what you think they might be!

Happy for you to show me the rankings of these wealthy Champship owners then.

I'm still a little unsure of how much the Zingaravich's are worth, but it does seem that with Boris involved we're talking billions.

I thought we were in and around the pack chasing the play offs, or the bottom half of the top half of the league...

Could well be wrong though.

Edit: 8th then.

I'm not sure. A quick google now has told me that Anton is worth c. £650m, whilst Boris is apparently worth £4.1b!

That's more than I thought I'd heard, but it's apparenlty the figure proven to the Premier League via Kroll, whoever they are. Not sure how reliable that information is, but I'd take it with a sizeable pinch of salt.

In the play off positions for the preceeding month though (or 5th when the TSI involvement was announced, to put it another way).

That was Boris's est net worth in 2004 - since then he's sold a massive chunk of is Ilum Pulp paper business - and whilst the numbers werent outwardly published - his net worth is probably close to double that now.

Or 14th in November and 11th in December....

Even with Madejski's wealth being hit by the economic turndown, I'd still say we were probably top half in terms of owners wealth. That's just a guess though as I don't know a lot about the owners of Peterborough, Millwall, Bristol City, Doncaster or Barnsley etc, but I don't think they're all looking down on Madejksi in the moneybox rattling stakes.

To be honest I can't be bothered to trawl back through the Times issues online. There was an article in the Times about 3 months ago that showed the worth of each club owner across the leagues. Sir Mad was pretty low down the pecking order (even for League 1).

Hasn't his wealth nose-dived from around 300m to 170m? It's little wonder he had to sell.

Even at £300M he'd have been very low down the pecking order. There are some seriously rich people running clubs that have performed much worse than we have.
