Stoke is only half an hour from Nottingham (which is Midlands, I lived there for a while). Another 20 minutes up the road is Crewe, and then Ellesmere Port (Lived there too); its officially north then in my eyes.

Anyway, I dont mind Stoke. Now Port Vale look like they are slipping out of the league (or will do), the Stokies are starting on little old Crewe. Makes you more north than ever before

That was ex-Ajax legend Peter Hoekstra! I was there, it was cold. Wind always gets around your nipples at the Brittania!

As for our two Stoke fans - I think this game is a range finder for both sides - these are games we both "need to win" to reach our respected goals for the season. I'd always swap a win against Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea etc. with a win against Wigan, West Ham and Southampton this year!

I'm strangely confident for this game. The one thing our defence can handle coming up from the Championship is long balls. You'll notice that our own long ball game involves aiming the ball at the smallest lad on the pitch, who will flick it on to our big centre-forward. It's that famous little guy flicks it on for the big guy routine that had many defences stumped last year.

Going to go for a 1 - 0 win to us. Jimmy Kebe performs some sweet moves in our own half, runs diagonally across the pitch and then falls over his own gangly legs, somehow winning a free kick because the referee reveres him and his godliness. Ian Harte comes on as a substitute for purely to plant it in the top left hand corner. Guthrie throws Lobster Thermidore at the Stoke keeper to celebrate. Match of the Day cuts to Julain Clarey crying and Zingarevich jumping up and down with a hammer and sickle

Was the first of 3 consecutive 3-0 losses under Coppell around xmas time 2003. Diabolical performances. One of Hoekstra's goals was an absolute belter from near the touchline :|

i was at that game, and i saw probably the best strikers performance from an opposing team in 25 years watching Ding, he was simply awesome.

Valentino's and The Place nightclubs in Stoke were very productive, and Queens is easily the biggest meat market i have ever set foot in.

Big Foot Absolute LOL at a Stoke fan coming on here saying it's their first visit here considering the amount of times they've played at the Madejski. Guess even Stoke have their plastics who've jumped on the PL bandwagon....

I guessing only about 5-10% of our fans have been to Stoke in the last 8 years.

Last time I went to Britannia Marko Reich (?) totalled us. 3-0 Stoke. Can't remember their scorer, but you guys are propbably right with that 'H' bloke. (I was also at the Wimbledon AND Palace games we lost 3-0 too).

Not sure what you mean by us starting on little old Crewe?

If you mean we are choosing them as our rivals, well we had a fair bit of rivalry when they had their golden era and spent a few years in the Championship. There's still no love lost now, but by no means have we started to direct our attention there recently. Vale and Crewe have a bigger rivalry than us and Crewe by far.

We have no proper rivals any more, Vale are too far below us now, Crewe are too (a relegation for us and a promotion for them could change all that) and nobody else local cares about us e.g. Wolves, Birmingham, Forest, Derby, and the Manc clubs.

Absolute Lolz - what a drip

Anyone know the name or the Dutch playmaker (sometimes winger, sometimes striker) who grabbed a hat trick against us in 2003 at Stoke?

Snowball's just soiled himself in excitement. He will then add that site to his favourites.

Focher Valentino's and The Place nightclubs in Stoke were very productive...

Valentino's (RIP) was rebranded Creation in 2001 and wasn't bad on a Monday or Thursday. Always loads of flange to be seen. The Place I frequented once, my best mate at the time ended up nailing an absolute horror show, the fattest bird I have ever seen.

Anyway, LTS, does Oggy's on Lichfield Street still exist, just below the bridge on the opposite bank of the canal?

Talking football, Stoke generally brought a decent following to the Madejski, a couple of 4k's in there (May 00, Feb 02), 1k - 1.5k in D2 was a decent turnout in 2001 as well. Their average to us I suppose, 2006 was always going to be low as they had nothing to play for and were going to get beaten anyway even if we did play Scott Golbourne, Aaron Brown and Michael Dobson for the last half hour. Oh, and John HaLOLLOLs (4 apps, 2 goals - not bad eh?). 2k Stoke fans this time, obnoxiously loud as ever I think. Very akin to us in many ways Stoke City, half full stadium around the turn of the millenium to 2006ish, then they started to actually do pretty well and the crowds flocked. I wish they'd fill in those f*ckin corners though.

I got no issue with Stoke, many people have due to the style of play, the club itself or whatever. I look upon them similar to Millwall really, a bit of a fluffy cuddly toy of a club that everyone should secretly like. The fact that I lived there for a year has mellowed my view somewhat...
