melonhead a player can be tapped up by another club, and refuse to sign a new contract because he is intent on leaving
and the manager can make a decision on not playing him based on that which is entirely football based, while not getting involved in the negotiations etc

ie if brian thinks he doesnt want to be at the club, and deciding he doesnt want players playing for him tat dont wantto be there

/\/\/\/\/\/\
Precisely.
Brian's team selections are not totally about what any given player's performance was like in the last fixture.
It's also about how the player is mentally, how they conduct themselves at training, their work ethic, and also their interaction with the other players.
How many times have we heard Brian talking about "the group", "togetherness", "collective effort" etc.?
These are Brian's philosophies, and he is building a team in that image.
Should players not buy into this philosophy, they are of no use to him.

This isn't blind acquiesence towards everything the club does. It's just understanding how Brian operates.

Tokyo Sex Whale "Sportsmail understands Pearce is unhappy with the terms Reading are offering"

I'd love to know what we're offering.

I think during negotiations we use free hugs and 'we're a nice club' as if they're worth money...

MouldyRoyal What if your opinions are wrong?

Opinions cannot be wrong. They can differ from other opinions but they are not right or wrong, they are just opinions.

Of course they can be. Opinions about subject things like personal preference or degrees of quality are less likely to be wrong than opinions about but still can be if they're based on false information in the first place.

In which case the opinion is misinformed. It cannot be wrong, simply because it is an opinion.

Shirley he won't like the part of the contract that states 'relegation to the championship would mean losing your 20k a week wages for a more manageable £85.34 a week'.

It's not all about the salary offered. We obviously won't be able match liverpools offer. They have to offer more to tempt him away from the area he lives in, sell his house, ship his family (if he has one yet) to the grotty north west. Think about your job, would you relocate to liverpool for an extra 25%?
And he'd have to see that twat rodgers' face every day (assuming they haven't sacked him yet!).

Not sure everyone thinks the north west is grotty given that the area attracts top quality talent to the traditional football powerhouses of England. I do know what you mean though.

Must be difficult for the club and McD as to whether to play him and hope he gives MOTM performances thus boosting his fee knowing he's attracted interest from Liverpool. Or, like another poster said, try and develop a CB partnership that is fully committed to the future. Personally hope he doesn't leave and signs a new deal.

25 % extra on a annual wage of £25000 is not worth the bother of moving to the "grotty north west". But 25 % extra on what he is earning is different. In any case he will not move to the "grotty" areas on his wage. There are Waitroses north of Watford....

im somewhat disappointed at the loyalty being shown here. i sincierly hope it is reading being cheap and trying to get him on championship wages or something that he isnt agreeing to the contract. i would hate to see my opinion of pearcy drop because he is wanting to be paid more than he is worth. i expect reading to try and get him cheap, i wouldnt expect pearcy to be like that though. most of us have watched him grow up for years now!

Wimb Some quotes from Brian in today's Get Reading

“We shall see what happens this week. There is a possibility that there will be talks between Alex, his representative and Nick Hammond. When I first made the decision to leave Alex out (his contract situation) had no bearing whatsoever.

“Alex has a choice to make and so does his agent. Sean Morrison is now in the team, proved a point and proved he can play at this level. He is very much in contention to play because we know he can do it. He’s committed and has a three-year deal.”

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... um=twitter

Interesting phrase there would be 'when I FIRST made the decision' and also the commitment line in regards to Morrison.

Realistically if this doesn't get sorted out in the next two weeks I'd assume his career at Reading is all but over. If he's fallen behind Mariappa, Gorkss and Morrison then there's no reason for him to sign a new deal and he'll be off elsewhere.

In my opinion the club has handled this absolutely wrong though I understand the reasoning behind it. There should have been a lot more transparency from the start both parties have lost out due to this not being resolved.

Agree with this. I think Brian has been careful with his choice of words. When he FIRST made the decision it was nothing to do with the contract; he simply wanted to bring in Mariappa and preferred Gorkss as his partner.
The clear implication is that NOW it is to do with the contract situation, so he has fallen behind Morrison.
A real shame, we can't afford to be shooting ourselves in the foot like this.

Lolz. The grotty north west... So. Move to Cheshire. Easy journeys into both Manchester and Liverpool where you have great shops, brilliant nightlife, culture and history. Or Finchampstead where you have easy access to Reading and Wokingham with identikit high streets full of nandos and bella italias, the hexagon and forbury gardens. Plus you get to work at one of the most sucessful clubs in the country. Hmmm. And you get paid more? So let me think.....

TheSiege I am dead late on catching up with this story but, Pearce has a contract which is running down, Liverpool apparently want him and we are not prepared to offer him a decent contract?

This is bizarre, I thought we were a Premiership team with investment? Offer him a good contract - he is worth it. Put in a clause that means he is able to talk to the top six clubs if they come knocking and everyone is happy! If Liverpool want our man they can then pay the price for a new Carragher, if not, we retain a potential Liverpool player! Simples!

Why cannot RFC see this?

I suspect they do know this full well.

I also suspect that there is an agent smelling a potentially massive pay day advising Pearce.

Also possible that Mr Pearce wants to guarantee he's playing Premiership football next year, and perhaps gets on well with his old gaffa.

Yup, there are two sides to every negotiation, and it's just as possible that Pearce is the party being unreasonable here as it is the club....some, however, seem to want to take a blinkered view and attack the club at every opportunity without considering the bigger picture.....

My sister lives in Cronton, which is between Widnes and Liverpool, so not even a particulalry posh part of Cheshire/Merseyside and it makes Finchampstead look like Whitley. Somewhere like Formby, or anywhere on the outskirts of Liverpool is a oxf*rd of a lot nicer than Liverpool or Reading. If I could afford to live there, I'd move like a shot.

I think it would be a bad move for him, but only in footballing terms. He'll be like John McGovern at Leeds, but hey, these sort of chances don't come along very often.

BraisingsteakRoyal @Melonhead (in the sand?)

You seem to be incapable of accepting any negativity shown by anyone towards decsions made (or not made) by the club.

No one is saying that the club always make terrible decisions and is badly run, but unfortunately for you this is a forum where we all get to air our opinions.

But if you think we're going to remain a Premier League team running the club the way we have in the past, I happen to think you're wrong.

ive openly criticised brian for keeping him out of the side if its not a footballing decision
but none of us knows whether it is or not, so criticising for something that may be, or may not be seems a little premature to me

thanks for your interest though

FFS!!!!!

told you, tapped up!!!!!

and if hes wanting to go(which you wouldnt begrudge him) then im pefectly happy with brians decision to leave him on the bench while assessing morrison before looking at replacements in the summer

very disappointed in pearce, and especially rodgers if this is the case
but like i said, you cant expect any of our players turning down a move to one of thegiants of the game, no matter how ill advised you think that move may be

*caveat- its the daily mail**
**reverse caveat- its also rodgers, so ANYTHING is possible
