How's that the Reading Way? We've never beaten a "big 4/5" in our league history*

FWIW ignoring the smarmy comments I do agree we are down if we lose. We're probably down anyway but there would be no coming back from back to back home defeats Wigan & Villa.

*don't count Liverpool as they were not a UCL club that season

We have beaten Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and Spurs at PL level.

The only big teams we have not beaten at PL level are Arsenal, Man Unt and Chelsea but we have managed 4 PL draws against the latter two.

I'm sure that will spur on this current squad.

LOL at even thinking of a Stuart Pearce "inspired" Man City was a big team at the time. The equivalent of us beating Sunderland or Villa now.

PieEater Who are the 3 worst teams in the division? After the tonking Wigan gave us last week I can't include them.

Even QPR are now starting to play, so I'd say us (worst) then QPR, and Villa. The most likely team to get sucked into it are Soton, but they don't seem to be playing badly enough. We may not be down yet but we're just not good enough to be here.

re: wigan, but apart from our game theyve not be that great. we just didnt turn up that day. hopefully the liverpool game will have killed any confidence they had from our game and the cup game

Games I've been to this season:

Chelsea away
Tottenham home
QPR in the League Cup away
West Brom away
Newcastle home
Arsenal in the League Cup home
Manchester United home
Tottenham away
Stoke City away

And the only sodding one of those we won was QPR in the cup. I'd like to see at least one victory in the league and would be more than happy for it to be Villa on Saturday.

Born 'n Bred Royal This post hits the nail on the head.

No way back if we lose to another team around us at home with away games against Utd and Arsenal coming up. There's only so many late Le Fondre goals that can save us. In terms of possession and chances we have generally been the second best team in every game I've watched this season... (apart from Sunderland at home).

can't agree with that I honestly think that this is going to go all the way to the final game of the season simply because non of the teams in the bottom 5 are look like putting together a run of conssecitive wins to pull away to safety - if it should go to the final days games then with Villa away to Wigan and QPR away at Liverpool I'ed have to fancy Reading getting a result at West Ham, as the Hammers will almost certainly be safe and have nothing to play for.

Relegation is confirmed this weekend if we fail to win. A draw is useless. At least if we lose we can all move on with our lives. When it is mathematically certain is immaterial you do not fail to beat wigan and villa at home and stay up.

Going to be horrible to have to endure the laughter from the west ham fans.

23 points vs 27 points with 27 points left to play for = confirmed relegation?

Ubermathsfail.

This is what people said before christmas, lose this or that game and it is the end. Then after a couple of wins everything changed. Now after a couple of loses, it is back to normal for some people. I seem to remember West Ham winning against Man Utd. on the last day and thereby staying up. So it is possible for Reading too.
I would however take a win.

Huge game to say the least, obviously if we lose it doesnt mean we are down but I dont think I can see us surviving after that. To be honest if we cant beat any of our relegation rivals at home let alone away, then we dont deserve to stay up. If we dont turn up again (like we havent done in the other relegation crunch games) and roll over and let them walk over us like the Wigan game I dont think I will be the only one thats fcuking angry. If we showed some ambition and got beat playing decent football I wouldn't mind so much. I think McDermott's tactics and what he says to the players are more to blame for this than the players themselves.

But despite that I'm going to try and stay positive for now because we still have that game, plus some winnable matches at home to Saints and QPR, and Norwich, Fulham and West Ham away. The last two seasons we have produced results to change our season, come on boys lets do it again, another RFC style comeback you can do it!!! URZZZZZZZZZZ

I DO think we need to beat Villa to stay up.

Not just because that gets us back in contention with them
but keeps us (temporarily) above QPR who may be just about
to go on a run (they have some easier games.)

I said a few weeks ago that I expected QPR to finish above us. That hasn't changed.

They have a lot of class and it's just taken a while for 'Arry to get it together. IF their
win at Saints wasn't a false-dawn, I expect them to start heading upwards rapidly.

So, presuming QPR get out of the bottom three, for us to do likewise means finishing above
Villa, Wigan and Saints.

We COULD still beat QPR, Villa, Saints at The Madjeski (and I don't care if we serve to or not)

3 x 1-Goal wins? IF that happens we have a great chance.
