Tilehurst End/Southbank Corner

by liamobey » 09 Mar 2013 12:25

What was the little kiosk in that corner? I'm thinking it was suppoerters club but can't fully remember. I'm doing a blog about being Against Modern Football (boring I know) and want to be as specific as possible. Anyone have any good excuses for trying to gain access from Tilehurst to Southbank? Those stewards were quality.Always used to tell my dad, who stood near the Tilehurst End entrance, we were going behind the goal to support Shaka but always managed to run away and blag it in to get with the "singers and the fighters"

Yeah I'm sure they sold programmes and stuff didn't they? Only went in Tilehurst End once, last game at EP - had broken ankle but not sure why I went in that end - was a miserable day all round really.

liamobey get with the "singers and the fighters"

We took it very seriously if some one didn't know the words, song sheets were the answer.

The kiosk was a smaller version of the larger programme shop up at the back of the Tilehurst end. Going back to the early eighties you just wandered between the TE and Southbank at will for most games, the gate was just left open.

I remember being let into the Southbank in order to get Archie Lovell's autograph as he watching a game from that corner (at half-time of course, no need to be rude).

Mick Foster's programme shop.

Although I seem to remember in earlier years being able to get a bovril and steak and kidney pie from there as well.

Yeah, Supporters' Club programme and souvenir shop. Still have the mini kit for the back of the car that I bought there in 1997.
