paultheroyal Nigel Adkins....the door is open for you...come on in!!

Most over rated manager going. Got Southampton to the Prem on the back of two players (Lambert and Lallana) playing way below their level. Sacked harshly but spent £20m in the summer on two players and they were barely above relegation.

melonhead whilst i agree, do you think the fans and owner will think another manager who also failed in the prem is the right way to go?

He was sacked with Southampton outside the relegation zone.

Love Brian, hate his style of football.

Don't care if it takes a season or two of mid-table Chump football, I want to see a better standard of football.

But no fans were calling for Brian's head, just disagreeing with his tactics on the day?

melonhead he lost the crowd

He his side abjectly capitulated against it's relegation rivals. We now have two write off games in which to get a replacement in before we try and round up the necessary points to survive.

He'd pretty much got to the tipping point where he'd lost at least a significant minority of the fans. Those two things combined really meant that his position was likely to become untenable in the near future.

TBH I'm kinda glad its happened early, because I really wouldn't have enjoyed it dragging out and all the good years we've had with him being tarnished with bitter recriminations at the end. Now we can kind of happily forget that he's got us relegated from the Premier League, because he didn't finish the season.

Ridiculous decision. Too late for anyone coming in to do anything, and Brian would do a good job next year no doubt.

oxf*rd me, RFC mongtards in sensible, reasoned (mostly) comment on HobNob..... and perspicacious comments from Mudders and Mags and a few others.

Top bloke, sad to see him go,did well up until this season, scared of making the 'right' big signings (I know, that's a double edged sword, wanted to do things 'The Reading Way', spineless players and more dissent than we have we seen in years, too honourable, out of his depth (possibly).... oooo, I could go on but it's all said up above.

Thank you, we move on.

Oh, Adkins please. BUt likely to be some 'nobody' Clog to chum up with that other geezer that we 'acquired' before Chrimbo. Or Martinez.

What a horrible, stupid, decision. At least give him a full season in the PL after what he has shown he can accomplish.

Much love and respect to Brian. Saved us from a drop to League 1, two great cup runs, got us to a play-off final and won the league the next.

Brian McDermott=RFC legend!

He deserved better from his players, the management and the fans than what he ended up getting this season.

It would have happened in the summer so all things considered may as well do it now.

It's a horrid situation TBH. Feel awful for him.

Why would Martinez come here? Do you mean Di Matteo?

Sad it has come to this, however I dont think he had what it takes to succeed at the top level, thanks for the good times Brian, time will tell if the decison and its timing are right for Reading.

Hopefully we will apoint a new manager quickly so he can look at the squad, cut the deadwood, update our tatics and develop of style of play with less hoofball, then prepare for our battle for promotion next season.
