Do we want to beat Man U?

by Millsy » 15 Mar 2013 14:17

Ok, a fun post to change the record (slightly!)

Obviously we all want Reading to win but just for discussion's sake imagine the two scenarios.

1- we win, get all excited tha Dolan may be our man, lose out on Adkins and then stick with Dolan

2- we get slaughtered, board confirm we need a proven man and we go that extra mile to get Adkins/Curbs/your 1st choice manager

Only fun, don't need to flame me, but can if you wish! :p

If Dolan can turn our team into a side that can beat United (assuming it wasn't some crazy accident e.g 3 own goals etc.), then i'd definitely keep him, so it's option 1 for me.

Our pitfall this season has been our performances and results against the teams around us. We have actually played not to badly against Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and the like this season.

If Dolan had two games in charge against Wigan and Aston Villa and won them both then I would probably give him the job. Unfortunately, even beating Man Utd and Arsenal away would not fill me with confidence that we would beat Southampton at home.

Hopefully we will beat Man Utd, Dolan and the team will get some respect and then we'll bring someone in for the rest of the season.

No, we want to lose 9-0 and watch the team disintegrate towards the Championship.

What a oxf*rd stupid question.

I'm not too bothered about who the new manager is in the short term, its all about staying up. So of course.

Yet if we win 1-0, it'll be "for Brian", and just be the players demonstrating what a good team Brian had actually built from nothing, and mean we're set to do even worse without him, whereas if we get thrashed it'll be because "the players are on the floor" and we're unlikely to win again this season.

Maybe a morale boosting 0-0 will be best....

IF Dolan can beat Man U would people here still want an established manager in for the next game?

I would.

^ probably a better question.

Think it would given Anton a big headache. Any manager who can get his team to beat Man Utd at home is surely good enough for the job.

No it wouldn't. It's a one-off game, anything can happen in 90 minutes.

If we have a chairman who would give Eamonn Dolan the reins of a PL club on the basis of 90 minutes and running a successful academy side, a week after sacking Brian McDermott, then we have far bigger problem at this club that I first thought.

If we even beat Man U 10 - 0, Dolan MUST NOT and CANNOT be the answer. We would be the laughing stock of any League. Di Canio is the only manager with any character in the list. The rest are far too boring and we have put up with boring long enough!!!

Boring manager, winning team?

Exciting manager, losing team?

I know what I'd go for.

I go to watch the team, not the manager.

What the oxf*rd?

It's quite clear that Dolan is an option, and right now, the best one on the table.

Adkins is an inferior version of McDermott (beaten to the champ by him last season, sacked before him this - he's always been second to McDermott)
Di Canio has been ruled out entirely, so isn't even worth bothering with (both in a football sense, and as a human being). He is not the answer in any way. He's a cock, with no managerial experience, and even less scruples.
Curbishley has been out of work for years, mainly because he's a dark ages manager with little or nothing to offer anyone.
RDM - may be good - but nobody knows what he's like as a manager really - a few months in charge of chelsea winning a series of "one offs" is no indicator
Coppell - May as well have kept Brian
Parky has achieved very little realistically, and what he has achieved, has happened at a seriously low level.
Poyet, has the chance to get Brighton up - same scenario as Wolves last year, with McDermott - he could talk to us, but if he has any sense he'll stay at Brighton.

So quite clearly an established and trusted individual is what is needed (Dolan fits) to see the season out. This way of course, Zingarevich can manage the team, like he's been itching to do since he joined....I suggest we'll see Dolan to the end of the season - if he keeps us up, then he will deserve to get the full time job.....

caskeys lovechild!!

pdc is not an option because of his lack of manergerial experience but Dolan is because of his wealth of it?

Got to agree about atkins tho. Would be a nonsence to get rid of BM to replace him with the man he beat,

He got West Brom promoted playing really exciting football.

I want Dolan to be appointed manager full time, but Di Matteo would be very exciting.

The last time we drew 0-0 away to Man United in the league was the last time we got relegated

I know some people on here think that Anton is a complete idiot (hello Sandman) but I really don't think he would be stupid enough to make an appointment on the back of just one result, no matter how unlikely that result might have been.

As for those suggesting that Adkins is inferior to McDermott because we beat them last year - well I guess they belong to the 'good last year' brigade. Southampton were doing far better than us in the PL, this season (the important one for those who don't seem to realise) with Adkins in charge.
