professional - tick

Failed in the Prem - tick

Any theories then on why Soton, who BTW will now be staying up, canned him? Did they screw up?

EDIT: I'm actually be ok with the appointment...even tho I don't much care what a Wolves or Leeds fan thinks.

How did he fail? They'd lost 2 in 12 when he got booted...One could argue they have the exact same points tally they'd have got by keeping him.

SHORT AND CURLY Cannot get at all excited about this.

I really hoped we were going get a dynamic manager who could take us to the next level.

What do we get.................................

Mr Dullard! An ex physiotherapist at Scunthorpe who was sacked at Saints.

Why was he sacked? Because they wanted to step up to the next level!

Sorry Reading cheap, poor, option!

We have no idea who applied for the job and we are in no way in a good enough shape to attract a 'dynamic manager'.

Adkins is dynamic enough for me. He at least advocates 'football', for that, I'm happy with.

(And it's not Laurie Sodding Sanchez!)

Adkins didn't fail in the prem- Saints were actually further up the table than they are currently when he was sacked.

Tilehurstsouthbank Good appointment for me. Scunny and Saints played good stuff under him and his record for getting teams promoted is decent. The Saints game will be fun too! :D

Welcome newbie

Used to have an account I set up in 05, but it got canned as I hardly used it, but cheers for the welcome fella!

See,I'm not that bad a bloke am I

MmmMonsterMunch Can't wait for next season now. Even if we don't go up we'll be good to watch without being a tiki taka pass around the back 4 bore fest.

Agreed. We aren't gonna win the champions league playing like Real Madrid. What I want is to watch entertaining football on a Saturday afternoon, and Adkins will give us this. It would be great to go straight back up and all, but thats a bonus. Most important thing is enjoying on a Saturday

Exactly that. This is the best thing about this appointment - we are going to be entertained.

He also seems to have a very good eye for a goalscorer and/or finding ways to get them scoring plenty of goals.

Sharp, Paterson, Hooper and Lambert have all flourished under Adkins. I'd love to see him get Wally Downes back in to help him out with his inside knowledge of the club and undoubted ability to drill a back back.

Yes, you could argue that. Heck, they might even have had more points. But, its hypothetical since we don't know.

What we do know is they saw fit to get rid, presumably with the Prem in mind.

Odds getting worse, likelihood of him coming plummeting all of a sudden.

Just went crashing from 1/19 to 1/16.

Leeds have probably made 11th hour talks, Adkins having second thoughts, Dolan likely to take over permanently.

It's not always for footballing reasons that managers are sacked

For all we know the chairman just didnt like him or was trying to pick the team etc

But Warnock may still get them promoted meaning he doesn't retire

Would Adkins really turn us down for that risk?!

Avon Royal Excellent news!

Am really happy with this appointment - and I expect the players are too. Having said that, if they don't all turn up for training tomorrow wearing their Championship winners medals I'll be seriously disappointed in them!

Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelighted with this.

My first choice. A good, intelligent, articulate manager, with a history of success under different circumstances and a tendency to use better midfielders more effectively than we've done recently. I think this is absolutely the right choice. All that remains to be seen is if it is a successful choice.

LOL at Anton and the club, what a total shambles this whole process has been. We're a laughing stock.

No he didn't. He was sacked before the final votes were in, but was doing enough to succeed.

+1....Adkins CV was far better than Poyets and should have been first choice if between the two...good record with 54% win rate ...hopefully he will give the squad a good shake up ...after all he's got no favourites so it should be on the cards !
