Why Can't we Have Coppell Back???

by Einstein agogo » 28 Mar 2013 09:54

I've just done a youtube RFC marathon and BY an ABSOLUTE MILE, when we played under Coppell ,we were 1000% more entertaining , sharp , quick and the crowds were more vocal because they were watching something special. This years Prem has been the worst since it began and RFC have been the most awful to watch since the Taxi Driver took the helm. I hope next year is a massive improvement for football otherwise i'm getting into one of those middleclass sports or... God forbid... "GOLF " !

Won't be good to go back, so if he fails miserably then he'll be remembered for that (not by me but others may) instead of all the great work he's done for us.

SC isn`t interested in more football management, his short stint at Bristol city proved that, he as other agendas right now.

He's the hero Reading deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Coppell's absolute 'burst of pure cumblast' apex was Wolves away Boxing Day whenever when Blakey scalpelled his way past four defenders to carve out yet another goal for an almost unbeatable team of artisans whose sum was the extreme excess of its parts.

I was there, watching the indescribable, and singing 'this is embarrassing' to the open-mouthed slack-jawed home populace.

Never go back to what can never be surpassed in its own moment.

Proudly, Brian had his own equivalent instances, on more than one occasion. But...once those tales have been laid down, then the sun must set, then rise again.

Now it is Catkins' turn to etch out his page in Junction 11 histoire.

I remember the dark days of winter and spring 04 and 05 when Coppell's Reading were truly dismal. I don't think we're worse now.

bit of an all-round pointless thread really

But yes I remember the 0-3's (three on the trot wasn't it? Palace, Wimbledon Watford in the cup???)

Herring is on the Team Board. I am quivering with anticipation.

A hero, a legend who should never have gone but his heart wasn't in it.

His record when he joined was better than Adkins' let alone after the magic he did with us. With £30million to spend he would be phenomenal.

It's a no brainier that he'd be amazing and the same idiots I argued with relentlessly before he joined (when I predicted he'd become our best manager and they said he'll be rubbish) will knock him now.

But the weird thing is I prefer Adkins over him. His memory is too recent, the taste of relegation too bitter and his bizarre sudden drop of enthusiasm for us just doesn't make me want him back just yet. I can't explain it really. Just feels a bit been there done that. Even though I'm almost certain if he keeps his wits about him he'll be an amazing hit for us again.

Adkins strikes me as an attempt to go back to a more Coppellesque way of playing. Perhaps less width from the wingers, but pacy attacking football with llenty of ability to pass the ball and retain possession where needed. Fingers crossed that's the case and it works.
